I already have a cooling pad but I thought someone might want to take advantage of this deal. I got on the last deal of free LCD cleaning wipes, which work well, and I guess I signed up for their mailing list. The code says valid for first 1000 orders and it appears it still works when I applied to code.

There are two coupon codes to apply:

BEATTHEHEAT
FREECLEANINGSUPPLIES

Order our new CoolGuard Ice Notebook Cooling Pad for $9.99 when you use the $30 off coupon code, BEATTHEHEAT. CoolGuard is our newest brand and it includes a novel line of laptop cooling pads. The CoolGuard Ice Notebook Cooling Pad shields your lap and office furniture from the high heat generated by today's laptops. A crystalline compound, which is cool at room temperature, absorbs the heat generated by your laptop, keeping the device running cool and protecting you from excessive heat. The CoolGuard Ice Notebook Cooling Pad is highly portable, foldable, silent, does not require power, unlike other cooling pads, and helps extend your battery life by managing heat distribution. After 2-3 hours of use the crystalline compound will turn into a gel and once the heat source is removed, the gel turns back into crystals and is ready for use again. Please click here to order your own CoolGuard Ice Notebook Cooling Pad. Promotion valid for first 1,000 orders.

acole1, I can't see this being any different than filling up a ziplock bag with water, and using that for "cooling". SCAM steer clear.

From the description it sounds like this uses some kind of endothermic Sodium Acetate process. I've only ever heard of it being used to create heat, but maybe if it starts opposite of how it's usually used where it's crystallized and heat is applied it works to keep things cool?

Thanks to the OP. Got mine today and use it for my mini 9 which heats up after a while of use. Surprisingly the thing seems to work fairly well. The bottom of the laptop used to get really warm after extended periods of usage (watching hulu or playing kids educational games)....now its as cold as it can be at room temp. The palm rest still gets warm, but the bottom is cool so it must be doing something.

I read some reviews on the Thermaltake iXoft HeatShift and it looks like it can make about 5c difference when using it. Benefits over typical pads are that these kind have no need for power, are quiet, and fold-able.
