30" Monitor for Gaming and some Blu-Ray

The next step up for me is trading in my Dell 2405 for a 30" monitor. The primary use is games and office work but, since I just picked up a an LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD optical drive on sale, I thought it might be fun to watch a Blu-Ray movie some time on my monitor.

The Dell 3007 is an obvious choice, but there's a problem. From what I've learned, even though my GTX 275s are HDCP compliant and the 3007 is also HDCP compliant, the GTX 275s are only HDCP compliant using a single DVI output and you need dual link DVI to run the Dell 3007. Thus, no Blu-ray at 1080p resolution. :|

Am I right? Does this mean I'm limited to a 30" monitor with an HDMI input if I ever want to watch Blu-ray in native resolution? Isn't this all just completely f'ing confusing? What a way to run a railroad.
 
Eh? You should be able to have a HDCP connection if you run it at 1080p resolution (not native).

Will the Dell 3007WFP-HC even display if driven by a a single DVI connection? Let alone a 1920 x1080 image?
 
30" monitors can only display blu-ray at 1920x1080p or less.

you cannot have dual link hdcp.

supposedly hdmi 1.3 can support 2560x1600 with hdcp, but no monitors support that yet.
 
Getting a monitor to do both of those is tough. If you wanted a 30" monitor strictly for gaming, I'd recommend the 3007WFP-HC. It's very responsive and is probably the best "gaming" 30" monitor out there. Part of that is due to the fact that it has no scaler, which while reducing input lag also means all scaling must be done through the video card (kind of a double-edged sword). More media/HTPC centered 30" monitors will have built in scalers as well as HDMI connections and the lot, but probably also won't be as great gaming monitors. You should out some for yourself at a retail store before you buy and then make the decision.

if you buy a 30' with no scaling, it will only do 2560x1600 or 1280x800.

if you want blueray or to run other resolutions, you need a scaler... which is in the 3008wpf.

people complain about lag... but some say there is, and some say there isnt. unless your a harcore twitch gamer (who currently insists on using CRT's) then you will not notice the 2 frame delay (1/30th of a second).
