Very interesting list, but my question is which books are the best out of this list:

30 books

I already read some of them, but which would you consider the best. I just finished 1984. It was one amazing book. I also want to know why the Lord of the Rings is there. I know is a popular book, but should it really be a must-read?

Yes.
Just be thankful that you have 22 more years to read all those big books.

He was probably going by your reading level.

I am 33 and have never read an entire book in my life, not even for book reports or anything.

Don't ever plan to either.

I've only completely read 5. 😱

Read excerpts out of most of them though.

Most of those books (in my opinion) are on "must read" lists because they are "classics".
I don't believe that anything old has to be good, whether it's art, literature, etc.
I've read most of thise books, whether for pleasure or by assignment back in the day, and I think most of them just aren't that great.
People like to flaggelate to them to seem intelligent (you'd have to whip yourself to keep reading some of those books!), but when you really read them you realize that there's much better literature out there that doesn't need a billion pages to tell a great and detailed story.
A Clockwork Orange - a shit story and a worse movie adaptation. The oinly people I've spoken to that enjoyed it were stoners.
To Kill A Mockingbird - A great story, can't argue with that one!
This list is different as it is not a list of the 30 greatest books ever, just ones you should read to gain insight and knowledge about hwo the world works.
Sadly, some of these books have almost no relevance today (even if the article writer claims they do).
It's a good list if you want to try to fit in with the "I'm so smart I read all of these great classics" crowd.
Otherwise, find books you might actually enjoy and have fun reading and learning from instead of what others think you should read.

wow, so you think people say those are good books just because they're old? I think you should remember that a vast majority of the books written up to now are old, so obviously if you pick the best books out there, most of them will be old.

BTW, a lot of the books in that list are short and don't need a billion pages to tell a great story.

I've read 12 of them, but really there aer at least 100 books jsut as important you could put on here, so its pretty random how they choose these 30 and not the others?

You answered your own question.

30? I read all of those except Getting Things Done by the end of sophomore year in high school and re-read them all at least once by age 21.

The merit of the last two bonus books are debatable.

We're all entitled to personal opinions. Try and appreciate it from an historical position and appreciate the doors it opened for modern literature.

I would put A Clockwork Orange and Dune on there as well. Dune Messiah as well - IMO although it wasn't quite as action-packed a story as Dune, it is much more interesting philosophically.

Edit: And I've read, or at least know what half or more of them are about.

A Clockwork Orange is in the list.

Oh, and btw, your sig should say "Mierda", not "Mierta", unless I'm missing something.

Hmm.. I guess I skipped over it. And yeah, thanks for catching that. I've never actually used the word in speech/text, so I assumed it was more similar to the verb. Hehe, I like talking about conjugation of vulgarity...

don't really know how they choose those particular books, but they are good. I've read most and enjoyed them quite a bit.

and el oh el at the person who thinks not reading a book is something to be proud of.
