Thanks for pointing that out.

"Q: Is high-maltose corn syrup as bad as high-fructose corn syrup?

Ask Men's Health Answers:
From a pure research standpoint, there have been no definitive studies yet, but common sense says yes. High-maltose corn syrup is most commonly used in ice cream, candy, beer, and breadall notorious belt-stretchers. If you're looking to cut calories, corn syrups are always a good place to start, because they have no real nutritional value. "The occasional intake of high-maltose or high-fructose corn syrup is not the smoking gun," says Dave Grotto, R.D., a Men's Health nutrition advisor. "But it's a bullet in the chamber if you're eating too much.""

The maltitol I believe is sugar alcohol, making it more carb friendly, not some filler garbage. Your body digests it better, working out the net carbs, you subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from your total carb count to get your "net" carbs. Sooooo, maltitol is ok!

According to a couple of users on Amazon, these may be past the "best used by" date, and one guy reported having "white stuff" that he had to scrape off the bar. YMMV, I guess.

EDIT: I ordered 2 packs anyway, along with a 24 pack of Clif bars and a 15 pack of HOOAH! bars:

1 "Balance Bar Complete Nutrition Food Bar, Cookie Dough - 15 Ea"
Health and Beauty; $15.99

1 "Balance Bar Gold Crunch Triple Layer Energy Bar, Cookies N' Creme,
15-Pack"
Health and Beauty; $15.99

1 "Clif Bar The Natural Energy Bar, Variety Pack (Chocolate Chip Peanut
Crunch, Black Cherry Almond, Peanut Butter ) 24-pack"
Health and Beauty; $23.49

1 "HOOAH! Energy Bar, Chocolate Crisp, 15 Pack"
Health and Beauty; $20.99
Total: $76.46 w/FREE Super Saver Shipping

Trying a lot of different bars to see which one is the best for me.

Note that maltitol can give you gas or the runs if you eat too much. 😀 Also it does effect blood sugar quite a bit, just not as much as sucrose. I dont need it candy-bar-tasting sweet, but I wish they'd at least use some fruit to sweeten, like these.

It is very important to be aware that its blood sugar impact is far from negligible and some traditional sugars, such as fructose, actually have a significantly lower impact on blood sugar.

That could just be parrafin coming out of the coating when they get warm? I've had some that had that on them, but ate them anyway. No harm.
