After thinking about it, i think my idea is perfect. Give the tax revenues directly to non-smokers. Any smoker who doesn't like it can stop smoking, and then they'll get cash too.

wow...there are some huge fcking bastards in here. Why do people hate smokers SO much? There are plenty of harmful things people do to themselves that can harm others too....i think if you have SUCH a bad attitude for it...go start smoking yourself...give it a week or two and see the other side...i admit, it isnt the best habbit, but its my ****** right to do it and i enjoy it so why the hell not? I figure people should have the freedom to do what they please, so long as it doesnt infringe on someone else's rights. Ex. I dont smoke pot, or do any other drugs, and i think they are extremely bad for someones physical and mental health. But, should someone be able to smoke pot so long as they arent endangering someone? Sure! Why the hell not. If someone wants to ****** i nthere basement and blaze up for a while, let them! Its such a waste of money to keep fighting all these drugs wars...why not go the way of alchohol? Legalize it, but restrictions on it, tax it, and be done. Tons of people die over alcohol, let them die over drugs.

However, it is the countries duties to protect its citizens, but should it be protecting us from ourselves? Hmmmmm....

How about we take all the taxes we pay on smokes and use it to pay for our own medical treatment?

Instead of doing that, lets raise the taxes on cigarettes so that they actually pay for the cost of smoking in healthcare costs, welfare costs, and lost productivity ?

Cig taxes are higher than any other product in the country. And the amount of money that actually goes on medical care for smokers in tiny by comparison.

We are already paying almost $7.50 a pack here in NJ. How much of that do you think goes to treat smokers medical conditions?

I don't think it should go for treating medical conditions of smokers. I think it should go to directly to non-smokers.
