that is pretty normal for a prelude - you have to remember honda engines like to rev, and have 8k+ redlines, so 80 or so at about 4k rpm is about normal, esp if you think about a typical car doing about 3k rpm at that speed...they only have redlines of ~6-7k, so it makes sense
Yea.. I guess.

Just seems like 5th would be a little lower, would save gas. It's an '88, so no VTEC.. redline is 6750.

Maybe it doesn't have enough power at lower rpm?

nod, maybe. obviously there's a good reason for it, or it wouldn't be that way. 😛

*searches for B20A5 dyno graph*

I did barely over 33mpg on my road trip to Houston last week driving mostly between 80-85mph. Gotta love Civics for the economy, that's why I do at least. 😛

Per gallon that is pretty good. Especially US Gal.

My car does 17-21 MP Imperial Gallon, which is larger, when I drive in my usual manner. can get 32 if I completely Granny it.

Ah The American Fuel economies 😉

I get around 31mpg...because my car is a turbo....my mum gets around 38mpg...my dad 44mpg...there is a new diesel out over here by Renault that gets around 67mpg....all average/combined figures.
