3 Weird Probs....Please help.

Ive been runnin the rig for about 15 months now & its been great.....but over the last 2 months 3 very weird things have occured. Ive tried to resolve them myself but have failed....please help!!! What is more frustrating is simply trying to describe the problem(s).

1) If i run multiple programs the machine shrugs & sais "huh is that it?" lol, but if i try to open many windows quickly everything locks on Desktop for about 5-10 seconds (except IRC here i can still type?) then the screen goes completely black for 1 second, then everything reterns back to normal, EXCEPT some items in the task bar (where the clock is) have disapeared i.e pccilin, asus probe, ati icon...although internet connection & logitech keyboard icons remain

I have done full virus checks & all is in order (using up-t-d8 pcccilin), plus defragged & spyware scanned.

2) For about a month now i have not been able to send files/data via IRC or MSN Messenger. I can recieve though. I unclicked XP's firewall, unloaded all pccilin firewalls, but still can not send. Furthermore, in games like Warcraft3 i can not host a game cos ppl cannot connect to me. It must be firewall related but ive tried everything but to no avail

3) Finally, i have a Vision Master Pro 454 moniter, @ 1600X1200@85mhz. When i retern from games such as WC3 or Q3A the picture is outa synq with the screen, so i have to move it back using the moniters controls. Why doesnt it stay

Ide really appreciate input on these issues as i have tried everything i know.

I can't be of instant help but.

1. Sounds like explorer is crashing, check the event logs for anything
2. Had similar issues when I was running w2k, try reinstalling the firewall and configure it (not the xp firewall)
3. Not sure on this, I have seen it many a time and never figured out how to solve it with certain monitors.

Are you behind a residential gateway of some kind? Like a Linksys or a Dlink router, for example? They may have something to do with problem #2.

The 3rd problem dealing with the monitor could be related to "warm-up". When you run a CRT monitor for extended periods of time, the image can expand as the RGB guns get hotter. When you exit your game, are you having to reduce the image size? If so, the warm-up phenomenon is likely to blame. When I wake my monitor up, it usually takes about 15-20 minutes before the image fills the screen...

Anyway, I hope this helps a little!

Corm, i think u r 100% right with that idea....where do i find the logs? And when found what do i look for exactly...ive never come across these files before. I also uninstalled Pccilin & will attempt to send some1 something via IRC when pppl come online (0740 here ).

Spambot thx for your reply, i think i solved the issue of the moniter, some1 recomended i enable Vsync & it seems to have done the trick; & no no router, only a simple adsl usb intel 'dial-up'modem. I doubt this is the problem though as its worked with np's for 6 months.

Also i said its been running for 15 months...thats wrong (dunno why i wrote that ), its been runnin since early Dec 2002.
