Moralpanic,

Another good point. People dont realize why these terrorists didnt try that shiat on Isreal... as shifrbv stated, they would not be able to given there level of security. The reason their attacks succeeded on Tuesday was because they saw major loopholes in the system.

How about we simply screen the baggage compartments and whatnot for bombs or guns or whatnot like now, and implement passenger restraints(like little cages, not like seat belts on the airplane that can be released by a stewardess or pilot or anyone authorized. hence, if you need to use a bathroom, call a stewardess and she lets you out. On top of that. train all personnel on the plane in self defense(I think they started to do that anyways) and put one camera on surveillance to the cockpit with a double door(you open one door, walk through, close door, open next door and enter) with a lockdown option. Put emergency buttons in the hands of the staff Keep a single sidearm(maybe an inexpensive glock, I'm told they are the easiest for those who don't have weapons experience) in an emergency box with lock and key for the cockpit crew and I think you're as safe as you're gonna get short of just swimming to your destination...even then..there are sharks.

joshpokeball,

we all know what ramming a plane into a building does too. what is your point.

oh, maybe your point is that it would depressurize the plane? Well, how about bullet proof windows, or special bullets, etc.

Yes, the key that is trying to be pointed out here is that hopefully these deterrants will NOT be used, but the fact that they are in place will
make terrorists think twice about hijacking a plane.

Think of it this way, if you're a terrorist and you know there isn't access to the cockpit, will you hijack a plane? Probably not.

I don't think there should be any guns on board any airplanes or anyother means of public transportation. I do think that the cockpit should be fully armored-secured. No access to controls = no point hijacking.

If I'm not mistaking ... the main reason why planes do not ahve steel-enforced cockpits is because of the pressurization. That is the reason I am told why they don't.

<< hahaha... you have been watching too many movies. You think the terrorists are going to get through a steel door and take the guns away from 2-3 armed pilots just like that? wake the fvck up. >>

hahaha... Have you ever seen anyone pick a lock in tess then 3 seconds? I have. I had seen a guy stole and drove off a Mercedes in about 5 seconds. I can't do it, you can't do it, but those do it for a living can. With enough training, anything can happen. Wake the fvck up.

<< If "something" happens which causes all pilots(2 or 3) to become incapacitated the plane is probably screwed anyway. This is a risk worth taking. Also, what scenario can you conceive of where this would happen? A lightening bolt taking out the cockpit or something? Electrronic are probably fried in that case as well. >>

How about one pilot went crazy and kill the other ones?

<< Do you seriously think all three planes would have crashed on tuesday if there was someone like a marhshall on board with a handgun? C'mon man, the plane that went down in PA was probably brought down by UNARMED passengers. I would take a trusty handgun over 4-6 armed holy warriors with swiss army knifes and box cutters. >>

The UNARMED heros on the 4th plane KNEW they are going to die anyway. So they did the right thing. All the passengers on the other 3 planes didn't know they are going to die, so they also did the right thing to not make a move. Nobody is going to be stupid to bring the plane down. A trusty gun in the hands of the terrorists (no HOLY WORRIORS to me) is not going to be trusty any more.

Perhaps you should realize everyone is for increasing security, but not with stupid ideas. If you cannot take any criticism, may be you should not start a thread. By the way, I like my idea better. Everyone go naked on the plane, see where can you hide the weapons.
