Ordered the Samsung 1740 laser printer online from Staples yesterday, $60 Easy Rebate with the $30 off $150 coupon. Just showed up...talk about fast delivery!
 
Just installed it. Pretty nice. Somewhat slower than my Konica Minolta PagePro 1350w, but still fast compared to an inkjet. No funny toner smell either, which is nice. Still loud, about as loud as my PagePro. Also makes the lights in my room flicker.

my samsung makes the lights flicker too (and the UPS go nuts). that bothers me a bit. my old roommate's decade old HP laserjet 4 something didn't do that.

Yeah, my Konica Minolta PagePro 1350w (also a budget laser) does the same thing. The first time I ran it, it killed my UPS and shut down the computer that was on it. So I gave it it's own dedicated outlet and it worked fine, although it makes the lights flicker, which is annoying. I only turn it on when I actually need it.

Staples has the Konica on sale like every other week for about $100. It's not as pretty, but the print quality is better. It does great black and white graphics; photos look MUCH better on the Konica than the Samsung. However, the Samsung isn't quite as loud, especially while actually printing, and it doesn't have the weird burnt toner smell that fills the room. Plus the Samsung looks cooler, my model is glossy white like an iBook 🙂

it isn't plugged into the UPS. the UPS goes nuts when the lights flicker. seriously.
 
I'm about to spring for the Canon i9900 printer from Staples, but I want to make sure I can get it for the lowest price possible and stuff.
