3 monitors using a DVI-splitter? Is this possible?

I heard that using a DVI splitter will result in cloning (?) one display, so I would have Monitor 1, Monitor 2 and Monitor 3 (which is Monitor 2 cloned).

Is this the case? This is all I want. I have 2 monitors already, and I want a third monitor to be a copy of everyone on the second monitor. Will that DVI splitter do as I want, or are there other problems I may expect?

In theory it works but i just tried it with the splitter plugged into a "42 TV and a HD projector and it wouldnt work. If screen 2 and 3 are identical it should work though.
 
hdcp is a problem. you need another video card to deal with content protection. or use component
 
Any video splitter enables you to display to same image on all monitors. It basically takes the input from the same video source and displays the same image on all monitors.
 
1 cable puts out 1 signal, the screens would need to support the same refresh rate and screen resolution, but yes splitters work fine.

You're going to lose the ability to play HDCP protected content and I don't think vsync is going to work properly either.
