oh yeh... that will be 3 million jobs in China.

http://www.sunjournal.com/our-view/story/906343

So congress phased out production of incandescent bulbs by 2014 (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007). To be replaced by CFL's... where the only place they can be made cheaply enough is China.

The same story with lithium batteries, wind turbines, etc.

Go green!

Wonderful, so we're borrowing Chinese money so we can create jobs... in China. That's just wonderful.

hey if I could buy them 6-pack for $1.99 my fellow countrymen be damned for all I care.

Isn't that how our attitude should be nowadays?

Oh and congress did NOT phase out production of incandescent bulbs. All the bill did was require a set efficiency. Other bulbs like halogen can also meet those specs.

And light bulb factories were shutting down well before this bill. But hey why let a little thing like facts get in the way.

Actually, don't most wind turbines and solar tech come from Europe?

Turbines yes, not sure about solar. My OP was not clear. Chinese made stuff in not the culprit.. just the overall move to these technologies are not producing jobs.

Yes they did. Congress did not say "thou must not make incadenscent bulbs".... but they did say that starting in Jan 1, 2012 these types of bulbs must meet certain efficiency standards... which is not possible with these types of bulbs. Congress phased out production by using that jan 1 2012 date for 100watt incandescents. 75 watt bulbs in 2013. Followed by 40 and 60 watt bulbs in 2014. By 2020 incandescent light bulbs will have to be 3 times more efficient. Sounds like congress is phasing out production of incandescent bulbs to me.

It was not economically feasible for the GM plant to transition to CFL's. So we rely on China and jobs here are lost.

I think we should just sell our country to the lowest bidder. Oh wait we already are. Nevermind, carry on. Nothing to see here.

Facepalm. You do see you disagreed with me and then agreed with me and made my point do you not?

CFL's were an American thing but they did not invest in it. Someone from Asia did take the time and invest in it and now they are the largest maker. It quite simple yet you seem to not be able to see even the cold hard truth.

You can get nice CFLs these days. How? I'm not really sure how. I have a bunch in my house that are different colors. My desk lamp is CFL and it's just as nice as a regular bulb.

The bad ones are just bad. I was in a store where all of the regular bulbs were changed to CFL, but they were using the really really blue ones. It actually hurt my eyes just to be inside the building. Pick your colors carefully!

What's the alternative? Go back to $10 per bulb?

Do workers actually sit there and build each CFL by hand?
China? Sure why not. They should get rid of the 1 child policy so they expand the labor force and make 4 million bulbs at a time instead of 3!

Actually that's not a bad idea. They send light bulbs to North America. North America sells them food.

We could replace them with Chinamen for 1/10 the cost.

Hey, if we out source Congress to China they will probably balance the budget so they can get paid back all the money they loaned us, might be a win/win.
