In modern war, disrupting enemy communications and surprise are two effective tactics. But
to postulate these severed cables are a precursor to such a war now loses some sniff test potency because we are days into this and no war yet. And in a week or so repairs will be nearing completion.

You can't believe how painful and frustrating it must be for them not to have You Tube or The Drudge Report.
Unbearable!

Well Iran is just about to open their (anti-petrodollar) Oil bourse. Maybe this was just a pre emptive shot across the bow so to speak ;)

More like 4 inches thick including the insulation and tensile reinforcement. It is much easier to simply cut power to a series of the repeaters. In fact, I wouldn't doubt if this is power-related and there is zero damage to the cables themselves.

Iran's exports are so meager it really doesn't matter to most of the world if they simply didn't exist tomorrow.

Iran has about 100 Billion Barrels proven reserves, a little
less than Iraq.

by comparison, Prudhoe Bay had 11 billion, 10 billion of
which have been pumped out.

As far as I can tell Internet access to Iran is from ITU which is part of the UN, or managed by the UN.

If several cables just happen to be run to in the same location then it is possible that they could all be cut at once.

The first 2 cables were in close proximity to one another. The third and fourth cables were in another geographic location.

wouldn't you think if Iran was down the our forces in Iraq should be down too, I don't think they included running undersea cables in the terrorist plan, but maybe they did...

And Now, 3 undersea cables in Egypt cut

Mass Internet outages in Egypt after undersea cables cut
By ASSOCIATED PRESS

Strange. 3 Again.
Internet cables in the Mediterranean Sea have been cut, causing massive Internet outages, Egypt's communications ministry said Friday.

Three Internet cables were cut off the coast of Sicily on Friday morning, according to the ministry. Throughout Egypt, the Internet is almost completely down or working sporadically.

The ministry says it will take "several days" for cables to be repaired and is trying to switch Egypt's Internet to an alternative route.

It was the second large-scale Internet outage in Egypt this year. Undersea cables were also damaged in January, causing outages in the Mideast and India.

Yemen and Sudan were also having phone and Internet difficulties Friday because of the cable cut.
