One of the hazards of growing older is funerals but this is a bit much.

Tomorrow, I head for Boston - one of my former music students, he's been sort of sick for a while but it's still a shock, he's not that old. He's had some ups and downs and was just getting better, we thought.

Thursday, fly out to Ohio. My great-aunt was 92 and has fought a bunch of cancers in the last 20 years. Not a surprise, she's been pretty much comatose for months and she was just hanging on. She had a good run. I lived with her for a year as a small child while my mother was hospitalized - I had a strange childhood. Not going to her funeral is unthinkable.

Saturday, Connecticut. A guy I sold a business to many years ago, we were good business friends/competitors for a long time. It seems like only yesterday I last talked to him, but it's really been ten years, how time flies. Heart attack. I've been asked to speak at his service. It'll be fascinating to step back into that world for a few hours.

It'll be nice to see my family, my music friends and my business friends. It's going to be a tough week, though.

That was intense, I don't recommend it. It'll take a while to recover just from the travelling alone - train to Boston, fly to Ohio, fly back to NJ, got driven to CT. I'm lucky all the connections worked out. I've talked to more people in the last 4 days than you can imagine - it feels like a lot more than 4 days. It just all is a blur now.

Today's funeral was the best - if you can call a funeral "best". He had a good life, got a great sendoff, and he deserved it all. He'll be missed. These were people I knew fairly recently, had a good time catching up. Some of my former consulting clients were there and it's awesome to find out that some of my recommendations actually contributed to major business successes. Wow.

My new boyfriend drove me today so that part was pleasant too. He's good company. (there must be a better world for old-people-dates than "boyfriend" - sounds like I'm going out with a high school kid :( )

Time to re-enter the real world. Please, nobody else die for a good long time, okay?

That must have been tough.:(

How about "gentleman-friend" or "romantic interest", instead of boyfriend.

OP, though this is a time for loss, take comfort in the reconnection and rekindling of friendships that have been reignited. Take care.
