none include monitors? (mobile phone post, don't want to deal with load times on media heavy dell pages)

That's incredible! I remember when the holy grail was a decent sub THOUSAND DOLLAR machine. These are BOTH reasonable basic machines at a killer cheap price.

Joe

Holy grail a sub $1000 PC? Now you can have a killer desktop and an okay laptop for under $1000!!! It is just unreal to me...

I can hit a tolerable build, without monitor, for $314. Buying monitors later is still going to kill me, though.

all come wiht freedos. Most you can Unix on. I forget the type of Unix.
If you want an OS like windows then get the non-n ones. E520 instead of E520n. Theya re about $50 more.

"Ebay has xp for about $50..."

Genuine SP2, brand new, and sealed?

(did prices decrease because Vista has been released?)

I doubt it. Probably reclaimed or used.

Where is the entry point to dell non-windows pcs?

I'd like to bump up to something a little more powerful, but without being forced into an XP/Vista buy.

too bad there's no free shipping. how much do they charge for shipping?

edit: oh, and the intel system should have a g965 chipset motherboard if it has GMA x3000 video, supports core2duo chips if you want to upgrade in the future.

Thanks OP!
Even though I didn't really need another computer, i couldn't pass it up! Added the video card and dual-layer burner. If its over $399 its free shipping too for those adding some features.

Wow, that's at the price point where it would probably be cheaper to build and you end up with better specs.

optical drive upgrades are terrible on dells. they charge 40$ for a 35$ drive. might as well keep the std one and buy another

I'm really curious- do de|| and MS realize what people are going to do with these, and just don't care?

DELL doens't care. and MS well bill already said he'd rather people pirate windows rather than use linux.

Actually even at the original price point you could build cheaper and better.
