I agree with the spoiled part, but the fact is we have way too many guns in this country. I bet 30-40 years ago we didn't have quarter of the number of guns we have now. We have like close to 200 million I believe which is like almost 1 per person.

And you'd be wrong.

I personally think it's because Americans are generally spoiled compared to the rest of the western world and don't know how to handle rejection.

This sort of thing rarely happened in this country 50 years ago.

We've always had firearms everywhere in the US, it's not like guns are a new thing.

These retaliatory shootings by loners and outcasts is a relatively new occurrence though.

What do you think has changed in 50 years?

Less crime in the US could be something to do with the insanely high incarcerated rate since the 80s.

United States Crime Rates 1960 - 2008

US population has doubled in the last 50 years, and murder rate is about double as well. It has descent from the high of the 70s to mid 90s. Other crimes hasn't drop significantly.

i live in huntsville/madison and i graduated from this univ last year.

very sad. watching this on news right now.

I live here too. This is soooo unlike this area.

My heart goes out to the victims/families.
