3 dead after Michigan courthouse shooting

Two bailiffs were killed and the suspected gunman is dead after a courthouse shooting in southwest Michigan.
The shooting occurred mid-afternoon Monday in St. Joseph, in Berrien County.
A deputy sheriff and several others were hospitalized after the incident in stable condition, Sheriff Paul Bailey told reporters.
"At about 2:25 we had a disturbance on the third floor of the courthouse. A person has shot two bailiffs, they are both deceased, and a deputy sheriff who is at the hospital right now being treated in the emergency room," Bailey said in a brief news conference.
"The suspect has been shot and killed," he added. He said the death of his friends was "terrible."

IIRC, the suspect lifted the gun from one of the bailiffs. We should probably pass a law preventing suspects from doing that and ban bailiffs from carrying just in case.

We have a *very* long way to go before smart guns are even reliable. Hell, the gun locks built into S&W revolvers themselves are known for causing the gun to malfunction, I don't want to see electronics added to the mix.

There are holsters designed to prevent someone from lifting a gun off you - do the bailiffs not use those?

the gun industry has been blocking smart gun tech from what I understand. There is some law on some book somewhere that goes into effect when there is a smart gun? I think in mandates all guns must be smart guns if the technology is made. So the industry makes sure the tech is never developed. Its only costs us a few human lives so who cares.

In NJ, yes. The second a smart gun is sold ANYWHERE in the US, all guns in NJ must be smart guns. It amounts to a violation of the 2nd amendment - all someone need do is sell a single $500,000 smart gun over in HI or something and NJ can't have guns after 30 months.

The main problem ends up being how reliable it is. If my life suddenly depends on my gun working, you can be damn sure I won't be looking for a smart gun unless they're able to engineer a gun that will work under all conditions, 100% of the time without needing to change batteries every month.

its NJ but I believe the bill has been amended.
