3 days out of warranty, will Dell honor it?

Just noticed this morning that a backplate on my 1st gen DJ15 player is becoming separated from the player. Quick check on the Dell's website and, oh no!, my warranty expired on 12/30 🙁 Do you think it's worth a call? Has anyone had Dell honoring warranty past expiration?

 
Nope, they won't. You can scream all the way up to the chain of command (I did) .... no dice.

This happened for a battery (two days out) and the screen of my Inspiron 8100 (3 days out).

Never. They have agreements with these warranty companies, once it has expired there is nothing they can do.. Kinda like if your car has 52,000 miles and the engine fails, you know the car company will not do anything once the warranty terms are no longer being met.
 
I think I will give them a call later today. If they say "no", oh well, can't blame them for sticking to their policy, I certainly won't bitch and whine about it.

BTW, the player still works great, I'm just concerend that separating backplate may let the dust in and damage it.
