Iceland is supposed to have the worlds most beautiful women and has become a hot European vacation destination, but it's also winter there right now, with extended evening and everything.

Try renting an icelandic movie called Cold Fever and see what it's like to be there in the middle of winter <grin>.

Do those "worlds most beautiful women" need someone to keep them warm at night?
(isn't it night there about 20 hours a day now, too?)

AAAHHH, Iceland! Spent a year there courtesy of Uncle Sam's Air Force. The only involuntary member of NATO, due to their strategic location. Hope this clears up some misconceptions:

Legend: The Icelanders were vikings who only stole the most beautiful women as they raped and pillaged.

Fact: May be true. There's a beautiful woman behind every tree, I saw her. (I think it was the national tree)

Legend: First known case of Bait & Switch, the vikings called the good place ICELAND & the chilly hell GREENLAND.

Fact: Who knows? Iceland is beautiful in summer, don't know how you'd tell between now & March, too dark.

I'll go back someday, but I recommend summer. It's not that cold in the populated parts due to the Gulf Stream, just dreary this time of year with almost no daylight. The sun never rises above the horizon in winter, and never quite sets in summer. All that said, it's quite a deal. Hard to call it "hot", but quite a deal.

Oh, BTW, those beautiful women frequently view modern dentistry as optional. This may add to your enjoyment of them, or not.

This would be a perfect place to send the mother-in-law...only problem is that it's a 2-way trip :Q

Hmmm..it's coming up $2,000+ from JFK to Reykjavik 1/29/02-2/01/02. Anybody get this to work?

Got it to work; thanks.

I think 3 days is too short though, considering a 9 hour flight time each way, according to the site. They have a 5-day package for $579.00RT.

Hey -

I actually just booked tickets last week on Iceland Air. I took advantage of the London Round Trip for $229 (I misses $199 by a day! Darnit!), with the option of staying in Iceland for up to 3 nights at no additional charge. So I get 3 nights in Iceland and 6 in London, for about $325.

A few things to note:

1. This is a companion fare - you have to fly in pairs.
2. The sun will be up in March, and the perpetual twilight is over IIRC.
3. Icelandic women ARE supposed to be hot. If I were single... Ha!

Cheers,

One more thing:

The flight is NOT 9 hours! They are GMT, so you are "losing" about 4-5 hours (I can never remember with DST).

The flight is actually only 5 hours or so.

Isn't this where that ice hotel is? I read about that awhile back and it sounds like something worth seeing. Not sure I would sleep in it, but it looks really neat.

This is where I am currently stationed. There are a lot of misconceptions about this place. I have been here for about 2 years.

1. Lots of trees just not near the base/airport.
2. Gene pool is pretty incredible if you know what I mean.
3. Pretty dark right now. About 6 hours of daylight.
4. People here party their asses off.
5. Come and go skiing!

6. And last but not least. Find out about a hot deal and pay 3 times the fed-ex shipping price to have the USPS bang up the goods and deliver it in 1-4 weeks.

That brings back terrible memories of Tokyo - many of the elegible bachlorettes there were quite attractive until they smiled. *shudder*

anyone know if you HAVE to stay there for 3 days? Like do the tickets have to be 3 days apart? or can you use the free 3 nights in a hotel, and then pay for more nights, and then come back like a week later or something?

I have not seen many bucked-up smiles here. Not like England ! Back to the gene pool. Certain regions have better looking people than others. Sweden=hot. If you travel to Maine you will find out they are not. Being european they do things a bit different here. Shaving is optional . Most people do not use deoderant. The teeth are good though. For the price how can you pass up a trip to the land of vikings. You can come here sight see, party your ass off, soak in the Blue lagoon , and perhaps treat yourself to a $8 lift ticket. Live a little and come on up .

Bump.
