3 day ceasefire ends; Rockets launched into Israel

Hamas didn't resume fire for one thing.

Israel launched at least 10 airstrikes in response to rocket and mortar fire from Gaza. One hit the backyard of a mosque and killed a 10-year-old boy, Palestinian officials said.

:hmm:

It is a tragedy that another innocent child died, but the article did not indicate the Israel's attack was unprovoked.

Hamas will blame other militant groups for the launches. they want credit but not responsibility

While Hamas was negotiating, no launches were being done. Only after Hamas did not like language and Israel offered to extend the truce time, did the rocket launches start back up.

As the government responsible for Gaza, Israel has a duty to prevent rocket fire. Israel has a duty to seek out those firing the rockets. Israel has instead chosen the route of collective punishment. Israel chooses to blame Hamas for failing to control other groups when it is Israel's stranglehold on Gaza that prevents Hamas from functioning as a local government. Israel calls the shots and Israel needs to be held accountable.

Accountable for Hamas launching rockets and mortars into Israel? fascinating twist on responsibility

It is hard to blame Israel for not having complete control of an area populated with armed resistance to the government.

It is no higher standard than Israel has applied to Hamas while Israel undermines Hamas' ability to carry out this duty. Israel has crippled local government in Gaza but doesn't like the outcome of having that crippled government.

I'm going to pull a very un-P/N move and just agree to disagree with you.

I wonder if you would feel the same way about Israel had the ship you were stationed on was threatened to be attacked by Israeli forces.

it is? I thought Hamas took over from the Palestinian Authority and relegated them to the West bank.

Am I wrong?

Gaza is the equivalent of a township under the South African apartheid regime. Israel controls the borders, trade, and every other aspect of life that it chooses to control in Gaza. Gazan autonomy only exists at the convenience of Israel. Israel is the controlling state in Gaza.

If Israel has as much control as you say, why dont they just take it over and drive everyone out? Why do it a much longer, more expensive way that seems to make many angry?

Jews aren't stupid. Just think about what you said for a second, and you'll know why.

got it. so it is Israel's fault hamas and others are shooting rockets and firing mortars at Israel. those others are completely helpless and are being forced by Israel to shoot.

Ah yes, and don't forget how Israel would be responsible for the attacks against them if they occupied Gaza with the stated intent to stop the rocket attacks against them! I mean, such a violation of Palestinian rights would just be unacceptable!

In response to the title:

Any religion has it's fundie assholes.

When there is conflict right wingers of all stripes and heritage get more support....

It's like a weird dysfunctional relationship only in this case it involves the tragic deaths of people who aren't necessarily fundie assholes so that the right wingers can get even more power.
