3 Com cable Modem 104.36

Bummer, it's not on the att-Cable modem approved list. 🙁

This is model# 3CR29210

Supported 3com's are listed as:
CMX 2940
3CR29220
3CR29221
3CR29223

Close, but not quite....maybe why these are selling at overstock?

Whats the deal with this? If you buy a cable mode you get a better rate from the cable company? I asked my cable company (Time Warner/Road Runner) and they said even if i supplied my own CPE it won't matter in price. But if someone knows something, I would be interested in hearing since I've owned cable service before they started advertising (~2-3 years) and if I can save an extra $5, this will pay for itself in no time 🙂

According to this place

Package Contents: 3Com OfficeConnect External Cable Modem 3COM Part #3CR29210(SAME AS THE 3CR29220 OR CM29220, HHA002)), Power adapter, 6-ft. Ethernet cable, 3-ft. USB cable, Cable Connections software CD, and User's Guide.

Also I saw on pricewatch a place had it for 70$

That totally sucks if your cable company doesn't give you a discount. I know cox communications offers us 10.00 off our monthly service if you own a modem. I just bought one last week for 80 bucks.

Any way to find out if your cable company offers discounts aside from calling them up and asking? Every time i call up road runner i always go through a myriad of transfers.

its not a discount.

you can either supply your own cable modem and get the normal fee, OR

you can "rent" a modem from them for a certain amount (I'm paying $15 a month to rent it) and they service the modem if anything happens.

AT&T Broadband gives you a $10 a month discount if you supply your own modem. This info is available on-line via help files, online-chat, or their #800 voice support.

My $19.99 month special is ending, so my rate will go up to $39.99.....if I supply my own modem, I'll pay $29.99.

No idea about Time-warner service......

ffej -- this may be the same modem, but if I have problems I will not get support from AT&T. They can querry the modem, one of the "features" of DOCSICS, and easily state "we're sorry, this modem is not on the approved list. Heck, they might not even allow me to set it up. But.... I like how your link is CHEAPER than the topic post!!!

Either way, saving $10 isn't worth the potiental hassle.... AT&T can be very unforgiving.

My $.02

I suppose prices may differ upon region, but as far as I know AT&T subscription rate w/modem rental went up to $45.99 and $35.99 if you own your own. Still a good price in comparison with other ISP's, just wanted to give a heads up before you got the revised bill as said "what tha F***".

yeah...just saw that.

I had a 6 month sign-up contract at 19.99. It's really 39.99 - 20.00 = 19.99.

Contract is ending....so now I will pay the current rate.....45.99. Lame.

Oh well.....DSL isn't an option where I live....I'm like 21,000 feet from the data-center

So does this modem go for ATT? Anyone know for sure - that is, has done it?

It's on a dang fine deal at overstock.com ($80 from them less a $20 MIR fromt he Amazon site that works with any retailer), and I'm tired of "renting".

I just picked up a Linksys modem and dumped my Cox modem saving $10 a Month. By all means save yourself some money.

From a different thread, the answer is no. Good deal for those not on AT&T though!

On the box it says "Cable installer: use 3CR29220 for setup" Despite this, this modem will NOT get a signal from the cable.
Why do I know this? cuz I bought one from Amazon.com (like $60 after rebate) only to not have it work. I tried and tried...no go.

I just ordered the Toshiba cable modem (LINK) I considered the linksys cable modem (Link) but decided against it.

Why? Linksys is $105 w/1 year warranty. Toshiba is $125 w/5 year warranty. The extra $20 is worth it to me....plus it's gotten good comments from various users....and it's black like the rest of my computer equipment.

Whoever is saying this modem does not work on ATT is WRONG!!!!!

I have it provisioned for ATT right now. All modems that are DOCSIS compliant will work with all cable internet companies, I know cause I worked with them. Plz, do not spread rumors if you don't know for sure. Just because it's not on the list doesn't mean it doesn't work. Anyways, this modem usually is provisioned as the 3CR29220 model, which is listed.

By the way This Deal is COLD, AMAZON.COM, has been offering these for $85.49 - 20.00MIR = $65.49
All so there's a $10 off $75 coupon floating around.
They've been selling these at this price for at least 3 months.
