scary thing is that it's not so much the bookstore, those books are just really expensive to produce.

4 classes, 20-odd books (PoliSci major), over $300. Not too bad on a per-book basis, but the total cost still sucks ASS.

$280 now, 10 weeks later, they will be apparently worth only $50 when you try to sell them back.

Plus, if you sell the books back, the bookstores are the ones making all the profits, and the author doesn't get paid jack for it being sold twice. Makes you wonder why that's all right, but the RIAA wants to stop people re-selling their CDs. Same damn thing.

Oh, and being an English major rules, cause I can find most of my books very cheaply online. Yay.

Geez... don't use the university bookstore. Spend 20 minutes on the internet and save yourself a few hundred.
Even amazon will save you 10 or 20 bucks off the bookstore price.

My books average $120 per class x 6 classes this semester. I still have a long way to go.

Or even next to nothing if the publisher decides to print a new edition for the next semester, which is seemingly happening a lot more frequently than ever before. One time, they even insulted me by saying I had to pay them a 10 cent disposal fee if I wanted to leave my obsolete edition there.

4 classes 1 lab here ran me just shy of $450. The part that really made me mad was 1 used paperback was 47.50 that was in its 3rd semester. Talk about crap.

Doesn't the library have these books? I usually get mine from the library, but if I really really wanted a book I'd buy it., but wouldn't buy books from EVERY module I take.

Thats not the bookstores fault either. The publisher will release a new "edition." Probably the same book with a different cover and some newer pictures. Here is an example. Physics class. Lets say it is just a low level class. How much information in the world of physics is going to change in 1 year that a company will have to update its textbook? But you pay $80 for the book and at the end of the semester its worth $5.
