I am loading a following page at 3 B/s according to Opera. I tried opening it in IE and it just sat there. Ooh this is trying my paitience. If this is any indication of how there services are then I will just quit.

5 minutes ago, I bought a webhosting package for a co-worker (as a birthday present) the whole process took me 2 minutes.

It could be your browser, I'm using IE 6.0 and it worked perfectly.

I'm sorry but it's not them.

Figures. Do you think that disconnection and then logging in again will help or should I reboot too? Thanks for being so helpful and willing to respond Rossman

Try clearing your cookies, cache and rebooting.

If that doesn't work, just go with another webhost provider but you won't be as satisfied :D

Here's a few more to consider.

Glad to hear you were finally able to sign up.

After your domain propogates you'll have plenty to keep you occupied, the bluetrix cPanel theme does kick ass :D

Well so far I am not too hot on addaction customer support. I filled out a ticket this norming and they replied quickly, which is good. But, the reply was simply a regurgitation of my stated problem and contained zero helpful information. Now I have to send the exact same email again and hope I don't get another canned answer. If I do, its to the superviser I go!

The email account I setup will not take login from Outlook Express. I have reset the password and quadruple checked my Outlook Express settings with addaction's recommendations. I tried downloading their Outlook template but could not figure how to import it into Outlook Express. I emailed them with what I had done so far, and all I got was a canned response on how to configure Outlook Express. It was obvious by my trouble ticket that I had already done the basic troubleshooting, which means addaction support didn't take the time to read the email. I dislike poor customer service because I have been trained how to give proper support. Poor customer service wastes resources because I just emailed them back, problem unsolved. And, if they do it again I am going to compain to management.

wyvrn - If worse comes to worse, they do have a 30 day money back guarantee which includes the $9.95 setup fee.

Hey, I'll through my .02 out here. I've used Dixiesys as well as a few other smaller brands. I was pretty happy with Dixie however they used Ensim control panel and was very difficult to get around and use. System was a little complex and was harder to remember things than to get what i needed done.

Otherwise, no qualms with uptime, support and service. Justed wanted to a give a little heads up if you were considering. Also, I hear nothing but rave reviews on AddAction and Solid Internet is a sub brand of Myacen.com which has been in the business forever and I've never heard anything bad about them that wasn't taken care of quickly.

Bump for Nyical.

I have the perfect solution for you, only costs $13.50 it's dathorn.com but they won't be accepting new customers until tomorrow and the two newest servers will probably sell out within 12-24 hours.

Another note on addaction hosting. I decided to cancel my account with them. I called them twice and had to leave messages because their phone queues were filled. I also emailed them. After a week of no response to any of those, I wrote a support ticket. Two days later, my account was finally cancelled. Never actually heard back from anyone though. And I never got my email account to work either. Whenever I emailed them about it, all I got were canned responses. I did everything their canned response suggested but none of the email accounts I created on their control panel worked. My domain must have been bugged somewhere.

I give addaction hosting thumbs down! If you have problems with them, prepare for frustration. If you are lucky enough not to have any, then they are an inexpensive host and a decent alternative. But there are better hosting companies out there.

Anyone know if there are any good (ie, cheap) webhosts that also allow ssh or telnet access? I signed up for an account with addaction, but they only offer ssh for their more expensive plans.

Thanks

What is your monthly budget?

as this is a personal hobby site (i mainly just use it for my own email domain), I wouldn't be willing to spend any more than addaction (around 5 or 6 bucks a month, I guess).

Though I am willing to give up some of the 100000 gig monthly bandwith and 500 mb diskspace in return for shell access as I will never use this much space or bandwith.

Hostway is great, I agree. Although you have to pay their monthly fee, which isn't the lowest price. Great tech support.

RossMan, have you ever looked at hostpc.com? I've been with them for a few months now and had no problems. They were running a 2 for 1 similar to Dixiesys when I signed up, so I got double the starter package. It includes: (from their site)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
350 MB Disk Space
4GB Transfer
50 POP3 Email Accounts
Ensim Control Panel
www.YOURDOMAIN.com hosting
PHP v 4.2.3
Zend Scripting v1.3.0
MySQL 3.23.41
Redhat Linux 7.x
5 MySQL databases per domain

Apache / 1.3.27
www.YOURDOMAIN.com hosting
Gzip Compression Enabled
User Downloadable Daily Backups
Unlimited Email Forwards
Sendmail
Squirrel Mail 1.4.0
CURL Support
Free AWStats
Full CGI-BIN
Majordomo Mailing Lists
Nearly Limitless Subdomains
FTP Access
IMAP/POP3/SMTP
Backup/Restore
File Management

I got double that for $49.99/year. I've never really had any trouble, but it's just a hobby that I'm working on. Joe has been really helpful when I've had questions, and his responses have been almost immediate... so much so that I asked him if he ever left his computer.
