According to This site (in japanese), they were able to overclock a p4 to 3.5 ghz! and got 10000 3dmarks! But what did they use to cool it? (the 3.5 ghz p4). I see some weird box shaped thingy but i dont think thats adequate enough?

<< It's nitrogen cooled.............;) >>

now how expensive is a nitrogen cooling system these days?

im nitrogen cooled, so are you, liquid nitogen would be another thing and i dont see anything to indicate that.

  • ENTHUSIASTS AT a Japanese Web site claimed they had taken the Intel Pentium 4 to the dizzying clock speed of 3.5GHz.
The current official speed of the Pentium 4 is 2.2GHz, but processor roadmaps show that it will reach speeds of greater than 2.53GHz during the course of the year.

The lads and lasses at Gamestar - a sister site to our pals at tecchannel.de, point to a Japanese site which managed to clock the chip "for a short time" to 3.541.87GHz with the help of our old friend nitrogen cooling.

An Abit TH7-II, 128MB of memory and an ancient Matrox Millennium were all part of the overclocking mix.

You can find the Gamester take on the results here.

Meanwhile, there's some interesting information at this German site about the power draw on Pentium 4 mobile parts...

Actually, I'm only about 71% nitrogen cooled.... ;)

That's useless. What's the point in overclocking it that high? And for a short amount of time? To say "I overclocked it to 3.5GHz" doesn't say anything other than you have too much time on your hands. ;)

More important things in computing are hard drive speed and memory speed. Funny how you don't hear about those too often, compared to processors? I think people are stuck on CPUs a little too much. Very much like how the typical person judges computers by the MHz. Since it's got more MHz it must be a better comp! lol...

Just think about it this way.. What use is a 3.5GHz processor if you have a 1GB 3600rpm hard drive and 72-pin SIMM memory? Useless! Wouldn't you rather have a 1.4GHz processor, a 64MB GeForce3 video card, and 1024MB DDR memory?

That's all very true and I concur, but, with each new release of either AMD or Intel, someone feels the need to push it and see how extreme they can overclock each one.............you have to admit that while it IS useless as you say, the mere fact that they could get it to that point and run 3Dmark2001 is an immpressive feat in and of itself!:)

a 3d mark score of 10600 is impressive any way you look at it, if it got a score it was stable enough to deal being clocked to that speed and they are using a fast hard drive and a fast video card.

dont be a poor sport cause they dont run AMD on Mandrake.

What's so impressive about a 3dmark score of 10600? What purpose does it serve? And why should I care what CPU and OS they use? Now you're just making an ass of yourself. I was merely pointing out that there is no point in the whole "OH, I OCed to X GHz...".

At least some people can acknowledge that and accept it. It's my opinion.

hahaha when you cant defend your chip you try to change the subject, lol obviously we all knew bottle necks in Hardrives and ram are problems but we havent reached a state where they are too big of a problem, try raiding (RAID 0) UDA133 drives you'll see how fast they can get.

What multiplier do they use to get that speed?
What motherboard has multiplier that high for them to utilizes that speed?
How do they un-clock the damned thing?

God man.....there's NOTHING "impressive" about the score itself, but, the fact that they reached that requency and were stable enough to run 3DMark IS impressive! If it makes you any happier.........there are all sorts of sites which also B/M Hard Drives, Video cards, Memory, Etc., Etc.!;) It's no more, or no less impressive than any of them, but, it is an acheivement nobody else had accomplished and in this field, that has always turned heads!;) Applaud the fact that the proccessor itself was capable of reaching that frequency and boot into Windows and run 3Dmark if nothing else........
