3.4E with a heavy duty heat sink and fan

Im thinking about getting a 3.4E and overclocking it to as high as it can go. Im willing to spend about 100$ canadian on a high quality copper heat sink and fan. How far do you think I can push the 3.4E? My goal is 3.8 or something around there. Possible? And is a 100$ heat sink + fan good enough?

Don't try overclocking any Prescott without at least watercooling. If you've got that much money, why not get yourself a 3.2C, which will do upwards of 4.0ghz on air?

Heh... nice 2.8C. Back in the day I got my ol' 2.8C to 3.4GHz w/ the stock HSF

Prescotts could probably OC just as high but theyll need a water cooling to ramp up those clock speeds. The northwoods are still faster for the time being.
Water COoling= Prescott
Air COoling= Northwood

get a thermalright sp-94, a panaflo highspeed or enermax adjustable 92mm fan and you should be able to hit 3.6-3.9ghz with it no problem.. My 2.8E will do 3.6 with an older thermalright slk-900U.

I suggest that folks who want to try a prescott ought to buy retail.

If the provided HSF will not keep the chip cool enough for normal operation, that is a legitimate reason to get your money back, or get a new chip, or new HSF from Intel.

This would also let Intel know how you feel about the Prescott.
