3.4 P4 better than an Athlon 3500+ 2.2 comparison question

That would really depend on which application the two processors are running. But, in general, the 3500 should be slightly faster at most things, except video encoding.

Definitely; the P4's strength is video encoding, and the A64's is gaming. In other apps, the A64 will win more than it loses, though it will lose a few.

@ Plestor: There isn't anything that P4's can't handle my friend. Am I saying this because I own one? Most likely, but all the more reason to take my word for it. There is nothing on my PC (apps, gaming, or otherwise) that my CPU can't handle, with ease. Granted, it is one of the fastest P4's out there and it is slower than higher end A64's and Core CPU's. But it plows through well enough and I'm not complaining.

Like others said, for video encoding, it will be faster, some SMP aware rendering programs would be faster as well, but for the most part the 3500+ will surpass it, while running cooler and using less power. I finaly phased out all my P4's, and I'm glad that I did. Now I just gotta get rid of those pentium-d's.

I own a pair of P4's running at 3.4ghz (one Northwood and one Prescott) and my A64 3000+@stock is barely ahead of them in most things...and leaves them for dead in gaming...at 2.87ghz it completely leaves them behind in every discipline.

But they're all crap compared to my new E4300@3GHz...man I love that thing 😀

Probably somewhere in that neighborhood, but it's going to make a difference whether the game itself is SMP-enabled or not.

from the results that Apoppin and I have swapped regarding different benchmarks and games, his P4EE@3.74ghz is reasonably close to my A64@2.87ghz.

how ever my A64 is only a Skt754 with single channel memory controller so I would sat the a P4EE@3.8ghz would be similar to a 939 or AM2 A64@2.6ghz.
