I would have thought the hyper-threading in a P4 would be more useful here. Encoding uses up a fair bit of the CPU, so if you are encoding streaming TV/video to MPEG/Avi and the hard drive that would free up more of the processor to do other tasks like watching the TV/DVD?

Since I don't currently have a HTPC, none. When I do have one, I'm going to enable and utilize as many features as my cpu can handle.
