My mom's '06 MPV has a leaky valve gasket on the front and I'm thinking about replacing it. Does anyone know the torque values and tightening sequence for the valve cover? Thanks!!!!

Oh yeah, the gasket part number is the same for all of these cars... so any of them should have the same torque values + tightening sequence...

FORD ESCAPE (2005 - 2006)
FORD TAURUS (2004 - 2005)
MAZDA TRIBUTE (2005 - 2006)
MERCURY MARINER (2005 - 2006)
MERCURY SABLE (2004 - 2005)

Covers? Maybe 9 ft-lbs tops. Sequence...usually not vital either but use a pattern similar to tightening lug nuts if you insist.

Thanks guys. I found the sequence from a Ford Escape service manual. Torque was 89 in-lbs but I didn't have a torque wrench so I may have tightened it a little bit more. The car only has 39k miles on it and the gasket is leaking...!

Hopefully it was just something loose. If not I'll replace the gasket at some point.

89 in-lbs is 7.5 ft-lbs 😉 I have some in-lbs wrenches at work but usually I just use a small 1/4" socket wrench. I figure I'm far less likely to snap something using a wrench that small.
