Right now I have 2GB Kington memory so should I add another 2x2GB? I know Window XP and future Win 7 and 8 might only read 3GB?

the 3 gb memory limit only applies to 32bit OS like XP, in 64bit versions the amount of memory the OS will recognize is much higher.

If you had XP64, you can install more and the system will see it.

Unless you truly need more memory (opposed to mere 'upgraditis'), spending a bit more for a brand new modern system will give you far better value.

I used a similar system like yours (X2 4600+, 2x1GB HyperX DDR400, HD3850 AGP) up to last year. It came to a point where I realised any little (but costly) upgrades I did would not bring the system performance up to par with today's systems (and demands). Case in point, I built my parents a new system (PhII 550 w/ unlocked 3rd core, 2x2GB DDR3, Win7 x64, etc) for very little money and it easily trounced the A64 system I spent so much money on over the last few years. Quite bitter pill to swallow but there you go.

Regards.

I can build desktop pc myself I have done few times in the past but for now I am saving money for MacBook Pro. AMD Althon 64 4800+ is way too fast for me. I don't see why I need to build another one...I can wait until it dies.

Unless you really need that extra memory, you'd do better to save that money for the MBP upgrade or a new system, whichever you decide on when the time comes.

I personally wouldn't spend any more money on the A64 system. The (small) performance increments is not worth the cost and still will not bring it up to par with today's systems. I don't know how much it fetches nowadays but you might be able to sell that X2 4800+ for a good bit of money. My X2 4600+ sold for more than half the cost of the i7-860 back then. Adding other bits and pieces I sold from the old system, the system upgrade did not cost me much in the end.

Regards.
