2x WinXP - same computer...same key?

Stupid question that I'm sure must've been answered before...

Can you install WinXP twice on a single computer using a single license and still get all of the benefits of WGA?

Yes... however, it might throw a fit, so you will have to call microsoft, explain that you had to reformat, and they will give you a new activation key (not the CD key that you type in during install, the one that you ahve to enter before getting into Windows)

Technically, I believe this would be a violation of the EULA, but I don't know for sure. What would be the reasoning to install the same OS twice on the same computer?

If you want a backup, use a drive imaging program, such as Ghost.

If you want to keep one install slimmed down for gaming, you can do this through profiles and user accounts, without needing a second install of the same OS.

If you wanted a second install to test software out in, use Virtual PC 2007.

Yes, if they are both on there aret the same time i think it violates teh eula... but if he had to re-format...

If it's a simple re-install on the same computer, and only installed once at any given time, it would be as simple as re-activating, or making the famous 5 minute phone call.
