Installing 2 new 750G WD AACS drives
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8KNXP v2.0
Board has 4 SATA connectors, 2 controlled by ICH5R, and 2 controlled by Sil3112. Both in 150 mbps
Sil 3112 controller is not recognizing the drives. Freezes on POST.
The drives ARE recognized by ICH5R ports.
The Sil controller has no problems recognizing other older Sata drives - 74G raptor, and a 250G Maxtor
I tried with and without jumpers limited speed to 150mbs, doesn't make a difference
I tried going on Silicon Image website to see if I could upgrade BIOS, but apparently they send you to MOBO website because its an on-chip controller not an add-on card.
I flashed Giga's mobo bios, no avail.
I could hot-plug the 750G drives onto the Sil controller once the computer is booted (WinXP), and its not a problem. They work great then.
But they won't get through POST connected to the Sil ports
If you are wondering why I care which ports,
a) I like the Sil SATA RAID function.
b) the ICHR slots don't support Raid1
What do you think?
