Well, that's the "problem," though I'm assuming it's a problem. I'm not completely sure.

I bought two 2TB Caviar Black HDDs a few weeks ago with a thirty day return/exchange policy and using several "disk info" programs, they all return the same information that both drives have "Threshold" of 140 Reallocated Sectors Count with a "Current" of 200 and a "Worst" of 200.

My Hitachi 1TB shows only "5" in the "Threshold" column and it's been running 6417 hours.

Do I have a misunderstanding here or do these drives have too many reallocated sectors for new drives?

I called the store where I purchased the drives and no one can tell me anything.

I don't think those numbers mean what you think they do. When I check SMART attributes of my 1.5GB WD Black (Using the Intel SSD Toolbox, it still shows results for non-Intel drives) it shows 140 as the Threshold and 200 for Normalized and Worst. But it also has a column called 'RAW' and its 0. You'd probably have to check with Western Digital but I bet its not a problem.

Here is an example of a failed WD black that I just RMA'd last week.
don't confuse the raw values with thresholds

If you do indeed have reallocated sectors then immediately backup and zero the drive for return.
Fortunately I had a mirrored backup because my drive was too far gone to allow a backup when I noticed the problem.
