2T 1T memory question

Hi, I have an A64 4000+ San Diego @ 2700MHz with 2 gigs of ram.

The computer has 2x1 gig pc3200 sticks of ram with a cas latency of 3 running at 450mhz. I have the computer set to run them at 1T because I read it greatly speeds up your computer over 2T.

My question is, can I add another 2x512mb sticks and still run in 1T. If not, what performance loss would I see running in 2T with the 3 gigs. Thanks

Oh and I 3dmark06'd me @ 3 gigs and at 2 gigs and my score went up with the 1T 2 gigs by only 7 3dmarks.

i dont think u can do 1T with 4 sticks of ram but u could force it... i dont know just how much 2t will decrease performance by cause i have no expirence with 2t.. when u ran it @ 3gb u forced it right? did u run prime 95 to see if it was stable?

i think part of the reason u were able to do 1t with 4 3200 sticks is due to ur cpu's ability to use ddr500... so ur using slower ram than it's potentual but forcing 4 sticks @ 1T is my guess...

Yeah I just tried 1T with all 3 gigs and I could not. I am sticking with 2T on nforce 4 Ultra b/c I dont see performance degredation in programs other then sandra.

Going from 3T to 2T you really won't see any difference. Going from 2T to 1T you will see more of a difference. You can't do 1T with 4 sticks of ram, you will have to do 2T.

And I just have to ask, is 2x1gb not big enough for you? I'd just leave it at that and run it at 1T.

Under most conditions, 4 sticks will run at 2T on most motherboards. You may have a better shot at running 1T if all the sticks are SINGLE SIDED that means if you look at the sticks, all of the little black squares (haha ok) are on the same side of the stick!

1T -> 2T = big difference...
2T -> 2.5T, 3T = little difference...

Well I figured I have two sticks of 512 laying around so I would use em. I have them running in 2T. The two 512ers are 1 sided but the gig sticks are not.

Regardless, I am happy at 2T with 3 gigs of ram. It helps in Maya and the once every 2 years I open up Photoshop.
