2nd comp's ping is much faster than mine when sharing hub

This was taken from the networking forum Text where only one response was made. Hoping you guys can help.

"My roommate has a computer in the living room and I'm sharing the T1 line thru a netgear hub. When we CS, his ping is usually much faster than mine. On avg 40 better. At times, he is 100 better. It's pissing me off! Every now and then we are even. What contributes to this differential? What can I do to fix it?

My computer specs are much better than his, other than him having 512mb ram, and I 256mb. Is it the NIC? I'm lost..."

*someone replied saying it could be the hub. the problem with that is my roommate who's not on the hub, but has his own port has the same ping as me. it's the guy in the living room who's owning us.

to bump my thread and maybe get yall started...

Could it be my VIA(133) chipset? My roommate who suffers from the slow ping like me also has a VIA (266). The bandwith theif is running a mobo with SiS I believe.

I tried bumping up pci latency up to 64 from 32, doesnt help 🙁

If your getting your ping from a game I wouldn't trust it. The host will always have the highest ping rate so if the guy in the living room is hosting there's your "problem". You really dont have a problem though, if the games your runing run perfectly fine your just being anal. I just did a network the other day, and when my frind was hosting, his ping was 20 to 40 better than mine at any given time. If your talking of actual slow down(wich I doubt your expierencing over a T10), then you may have to go over your network config.
