2K SP3????

I just noticed a few people in the Newsgroups saying SP3 was Gold and already leaked out.......................had a link, but, was either overloaded or dead...............anyone here know anything about this?????

OK, now there seems to be a few different links floating around, the best I can figure, build 3.154.2 is the last beta build, but, according to the Newsgroups. RC3.151.3 is going to be the final............I may be wrong, but that is what is being said.............I'm just trying to find out before I D/L it............😉

Just a note here...getting a beta version of a service pack (which can seriously compromise the stability of the system if it has bugs in it) from a newsgroup (where you don't know if it came from who you think it came from) is generally classified as a Bad Thing. 🙂

OK, two things I need to clear up here...............1) SP3 being delayed was a rumor which has now been proven false. 2) I only "watch" the Newsgroups for when things are released...............if the rumor begins there that something has been released, I know to watch for it on legit sites which usually have reliable links to the full download which you may then save to disk and has already been tested............😉

Well, DUH!!! .

Anyways, last night i got W2Ksp3express_3.154.3_en.exe a 621k file,it then checked my system & proceeded to download the files needed from microsoft and then installed SP3.
After reboot in device manager it says SP3 , not sp3 ver xxxx as before.

So i guess this 3.154.3 is the final ver. 🙂

Anyone who installs a leaked service pack on their system is by far a braver man than I.
but hey.. to each his own as they say 😉

i agree. im too scared to install non official service packs. i even hate installing beta software.

it appears that sp3 went up on the corporate windows update site for a short amount of time yesterday and someone did manage to get a hold of it. The file was fairly quickly taken down but would appear to be final code and once it is installed the version info in windows just says sp3 rather than a build number.

Personally i havent tried it yet because i cant get back on the ftp site to download it and didnt finish it last night 🙁 but with any luck some mirrors might start to spring up.

hope this helps a wee bit

I thought this might interest those who are following this thread:

Windows 2000 Post-SP2 Fixes

Although all of these might not be incorporated into sp3, just look at that number, 899.

I've thought about this before, but when you stop and say it out loud it's sort of amazing:

Windows 2000 had 3 betas (I think) 2 RC's (I think) and then 2 Service Packs and now 899 fixes that are Post SP2....

Hello,

New here and saw this. I was one of those accidental few who got that. It didn't say Release Candidate anywhere that I can see. There is no beta #. The Properties page reads : Microsoft Windows 2000 SP3. It has of course, the "changes determined by the Anti-trust case.

Seems fine, so far. Got it here if you haven't found it already.

meant to add in the url but wasnt too sure if some of the contents might be slightly frowned upon by the mods...

now i wish id left the laptop on grabbing the file (main rig is too noisy 🙁) last night cos i can get on it any more 🙁

well i managed to finish off the download and it would appear to be working fine. to be safe tho i tried it on my laptop 1st so as not to risk the main rig!

doesnt seem to be overly different but does add in a feature to diable the default progs for certain apps. basically email, browser and media related things. quite possibly to do with the lawsuits???

anyways ill play about with it a bit more and get back to ya with my findings.

Folks, SP3 will release to web Real Soon Now.

I promise.

And I join the other sane folks in this thread who advocate waiting until the official release before installing on your machine. Doing otherwise is just nuts, IMHO.

forget the rumors, the fakes, the newsgroups, blah bla bla. Just open IE, goto Tools > Windows Update, and get the real thing from MS. And it beats downloading 150mb! (windows update only downloads the parts of sp3 that you need...in my case, 20mb)
