2Ghz Willamette Celeron to 2.26Ghz Northwood B?

Hey all,

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU in an older Dell Optiplex SX260 and it seems like the best route is a Northwood B. Since the 2.4Ghz and 2.53Ghz models aren't easily available I'm looking at a 2.26Ghz. Is the performance improvement over the older Celeron going to be worth it?

I'm not at all familiar with older Intel chip performance.

Thanks!

Can't afford a whole new system at this point in time. Just thinking that four times the cache may help out Office & Productivity apps.

More Ram may be more helpfull as well.

I wouldn't want to spend a whole lot on this, but yes, it's a much faster processor.

How much ram is in the system? If you have less than 512MB, that's probably the better upgrade if you can only do one.

Yes but it won't be amazing, just noticeable here or there.

I would try and find a 2.53/2.66GHz version though, or even the 2.8GHz version. Do look for the northwood type though as your motherboard might not support the Prescott variety. You can find these chips on eBay, quite easily.
