I currently have 1gb of ram and im happy with it
1GB DDR2 Performance SDRAM at 667MHz

How much of a difference will 2gbs make for games like black and white 2, oblivion, and dark messiah. Or should i just stick with 1?

I used to play world of warcraft with 512MB for a year; it could take me 30 seconds to walk a few steps in ironforge. Going to 1GB made a huge improvement. I can't say on 2GB, don't have it yet:)

Not a huge amount but a noticeable one. It won't boost your fps, but it may well reduce loading times and remove "pausing" as the game loads info from the swap file.

On a related note, how much improvement is there from 2GB to 4GB?

Not 100% sure, but some difference. Not nearly as much as 1GB to 2GB, however.

well unless you plan on getting windows vista i dont see a point in 4gbs, i know windows xp pro 32 bit only supports up to 3gbs, idk how much 64bit supports.

Not enough difference to pay the insane memory prices right now. Wait till after the New Year to go 2 gigs.

if all you're doing is playing games, 1GB should be fine. If you're playing with photos or doing software development, the 2GB helps depending on what you're doing. I personally have 2GB in my MacBookPro, 2GB in my Inspiron 9200, and 1GB in my wife's desktop.

2GB really helps when gaming.
