2Gb vs. 4Gb ... Performance vs. Size

Basically, the info I've seen is that the new atx2.0 939 mobo's etc, can't detect the 4gb ram at ddr 400? or something?

If you did load your mobo up with 4x1gb sticks woudl that prove a bigger pull of memory to draw from versus 2gb in dual channel mode? ... OR could you run all that 4 gb in dual channel? And if you couldn't... why would drawing from 4gb not be as good as 2gb dual channel?

I know 4gb seems overkill to some, but I do alot of video editing and music creation and multiple instances of mmorpgs... etc... and was curious at putting 4 corsair value 1gb'ers in my board already have 2gb...

You know, this is a great post and I unfortunately don't have an answer for you but from what I understand, it's difficult to get dual channel running reliability with 4 Gb's of RAM. You could always try though.

Question for you about your sytem. I see you have the Antec New Power 480W power supply. How do you like that unit? I've been looking to buy one myself but am concerned it may be too loud. Any thoughts?

With 4 sticks you would have to run 2T. However running 2T is not a very big performance hit and if your current amount of RAM isn't cutting it then it wouldn't matter. Having more RAM would be more beneficial.

lol... if you EVER try to run more then one instance of an mmorpg (I run two instances of Dark age of Camelot Catacombs expansion it gives your RAM a labotomy ---spelling?---)or... encode an entier video of 3d animation, you'll know where the ram is needed lol... anyways...

In response to Jonmcguffin I love my Antec PSU, but I'm not one of those bothered by "loud" noises I'm always using my stereo monitors at highest volumes anyways so ... frankly I don't worry about that... but I really wouldn't consider it "loud". It's quite smooth and silent... and I love the modular cable management.
