2GB RAM vs. 3GB RAM

Should I bother with 3GB of RAM (2x1GB + 2x512MB), or should I just sell off the 1GB to help make up some of the money lost on purchasing the 2GB?

I'm opting for selling off the 1GB, but I need some knowledgeable opinions here.

As for what the system is used for: general purpose + some gaming (nothing too demanding; no Crysis, etc.). I'm more concerned about all around performance, though.
 
IMHO, not worth it really. I used 2GB, went to 4GB and saw no noticeable gains in any of my normal tasks or games.
 
You'll get so little from selling 2x512 MB that I would just keep them. While it might not be worthwhile to upgrade from 2 GB to 3 GB it's certainly not worth the value of 2x512 MB DIMMs and the hassle of selling something nobody wants to drop from 3 GB to 2 GB.

Keep it and be happy.
