2gb or 4gb gtx760?

With the next gen consoles coming out and my native gaming resolution of 1200p,will the extra 2gb make that much more sense in the long run?

Looking at either the $320 Evga FTW 4gb or the Asus DC2 at $260,the extra for the FTW wouldn't hurt me and i know that currently 4gb is silly for 1200p but with next gen consoles and games almost here,would the 2gb extra do much good if i want about 3 years from such a card?

The FTW at $320 seems high but the only other 4gb model that fits in my case is the $270 zotac reference based model,i doubt i would do any overclocking so perhaps this choice would work as well?
 
Do you prefer Nvidia. if yes and if you want to keep the card for 2 - 3 years go for EVGA GTX 760 4GB card. if you want to keep the card for like 1 year till Maxwell 20nm then you could go with 2GB.

but if you don't have a preference for Nvidia get a HD 7950 or HD 7970. both these cards are faster and provide better value for your money.

Out of my price range,all the reviews on the gtx760 show the gtx760 nearly touching the gtx670,outrunning even the 7950 boost and often times outrunning the 7970.

Issue with the 7950s for me are the fact all the good ones run well over 10'' and honestly 10'' in this case is a major pain to fit but it barely fits,the best gtx760s run as big as 9.5'' with the 4gb Evga FTW that i am interested in and as small as 7.63'' with the Zotac Amp 2gb.

just get the 2gb.

typical usage at 1200p. a single 760 gpu will choke before 2gb ever get used up.
exception is - you are gonna do heavy mod.

as for console making use of 8gb. that is all marketing bs!
720p does not equal 8gb of vram usage.
 
Been giving it a bit more thought,the zotac reference 4gb at $270 seems to make the most sense to me,it could be noisy when compared to the $315 ACX SC from EVGA but i ended up thinking why in the hell am i worried about noise as i have a 12,000 btu ac unit sitting about 5 feet away from me on high blasting away at a very cold 66 degrees with plenty of noise :awe:....bedroom is a compact 9x10 so ambient temperatures are far away from being a issue.

I game now a days with this loud ass ac unit blasting away or with my headphones on,the difference at this point comes down to spending $250 for a 2gb reference or $270 for the 4gb model.....the extra $20 for a 3 year card should be a easy choice.

My budget does allow all the way up to $400,heck if my non overclocked i5 2500 non k and a gtx770 would work with my corsair cx500 and its 38 amps i would be buying that for sure as that is really the card i am interested in.

My build is pretty basic,got your non k i5 sitting stock,smaller then average microatx mobo from gigabyte,2 case fans,single ssd and a single dvd rom and the gtx770 has crossed my mind more times then i could remember.

I believe 38A will be fine for 770.Edit: it seems Evga recommends 42A for 770.

Pain in the ass being so close oh well but hey i figured i could pocket the $130 and by the time i am ready in 3 years or so for a new card and new cpu that i will most likely be buying titan like performance or better at the same $270 i am willing to shell out for the zotac 4gb gtx760.:biggrin:

Well i was up in the recent 7970ghz thread,made a post about considering the $320 7970ghz and a couple people figured with a stock clocked i5 2500 non k and a microatx mobo that my system shouldn't peak over 300w and my 12v with its 38amp does supply 456w...reviews show the gtx770 being fairly faster in some titles while the average power consumption over the 7970ghz is about 30-50w lower depending on review.....

Based on that i decided and just placed a order for the $389 zotac gtx770.:biggrin:

Awesome it is much faster than a 760 ()🙂 OEMs typically provide a super safe limit so you probably needn't bother much.

Worst case IF i run into a issue,i could drop settings in my games dramatically enough like run 1680x1050 low in BF3 with no msaa or hbao lol and enable vsync or a frame cap@60fps to dramatically lower gpu usage and thus drop power consumption and then in a few weeks i could drop in another psu if need be.

I think i should be fine,i don't run furmark or intelburn test as i am technically never overclocking,looking for at least 2-3 years from this card so overclocking is the last thing on my mind right now.

After sitting on my gtx650 and running 1440x900 low on some games like in BF3 lol on my u2412m,will be great to finally go back to 1200p settings.:biggrin:

I just pray the card fits,i got this modified gateway dx series case with a huge 140mm noctua fan on the side keeping the rig cool,at 10.5 long that card may very well require some banging of the hard drive cage to fit it but trust me i already am prepared to go for the gold,owning a single hard drive and it being a 180gb ssd i would sacrifice the hard drive cage in a hot second and tape the ssd to the case door or the to the bottom just as quick.:whiste:

The case is something of a redneck deluxe model but honestly i have gotten better load temps and overall better ambients with this thing then i have with $100 cases like the antec 900 lol so its almost sentimental to me.

It is using the Zotac 2 fan cooling solution,as much as i love the titan cooler the extra $70 wasn't worth it to me as Evga on newegg is the only offering a titan cooler for $460.The Zotac i picked is the cheapest period by $15 if you include shipping @ $390 and free shipping and and has a decent looking heatsink to boot.:biggrin:

Unless I am mistaken it is using zotac amp coolers which are pretty good.

Would be the first time using such a card,pretty excited to see what it can do and reviews for the Amp cards tend to usually be good and that is almost for any card either its a 7850 or a gtx770.

Guess almost any aftermarket cooled card would be a good choice over a reference unless it is a gtx770 or gtx780 and had a titan cooler.
 
I would think of future and get 4GB ,,, Maybe Cry3 engine needs 3GB for example on ultra high settings. thx gl
