Corsair XMS2 2GB dual channel DDR2 kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145177

$54.99
-$45 rebate (pretty steep, exp. 1/15/09)
free shipping
-$4 promo code EMCABAGBK (Newegg newsletter subscribers only, exp. 1/12/09)

= $5.99

DDR2 800MHz
4-4-4-12 latencies
2.1v
"DHX Technology" meanining it has the pin-fin heatspreaders like the Dominators

I'm personally skipping on this because I've already bought too much RAM, plus the rebate amount is pretty stiff. However, for those who want to risk it, this RAM has decent specs and is dirt cheap.

Don't forget live search cashback 2.75%. That's $4.90 when all is said and done (and that counts the $0.42 stamp!).

Corsair's rebate house claims to have approved my rebate from back in November, 2008. They say I should get it later this month. The memory itself (I have the non-DHX version) seems fine.

Keep in mind though, that if you have used Corsair memory rebates before, then they may not honor this latest one. The fine print has something about not allowing multiple rebates on the same "product line".

FWIW, I've got 2x2GB sticks of this stuff running at 934MHz 5-5-5-18 @ 2.0V. I haven't tried higher or tweaked the latencies.

Really? Even if this is a different promotion number? Sucks if this is true because I'm waiting on quite a few Corsair rebates.

DO you think this chip will do say 1000mhz at 5-5-5-15 timings considering it can do cas 4 at 800mhz?

That's what the rebate form says. Maybe by "product line" they just mean an individual model--or maybe they mean all models in a series. Either way, they may still honor your rebates. I'm just saying that we shouldn't count on them, given the disclaimer.

I recently tested two sets of this ram (in pairs) to failure with memtest86 v3.3 & 1:2 cpu:ram Abit IP35E. Both sets reached 516 MHz. A previous batch did ~232 in pairs 4-4-4-12 2.1V, and 283 287 MHz singly 5-5-5-15 2.1V.

That's actually quite good for ddr2-800. 258 would be equivalent to 1032mhz. I have kingston valueram here and it struggles anything over 914mhz and I had to loosen the timings a bit to get there. My CPU can do much more than 3.2ghz so a faster memory would make my system faster. Thank you for that analysis.

The rebate is kind of steep though. I just don't trust rebates except for a few companies. I've sent in lot of rabates and 80% of my rebates come but that other 20% is make me stay away from rebates as much as possible.

The rebate is in the form of a debit card from Citibank. It's a bit tricky filling in the online form. The key is to get the upc number that corresponds to the 45 dollar rebate. Then when you get the form that you are filling out where you choose the product, choose on the basis of that upc number. Otherwise the product numbers get ambiguous and confusing, and the upc on the produc itself is different. Anyway, once I figured this out, it didn't take much time to just print out the form, attache the invoice and upc from the product and send it off. You can check online for the rebate "progress". A friend ordered another set for me so I'll have 4 gb ultimately. I don't think you want to order two sets because of the rebate fine print.
