2GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS DDR2 667mhz $69

Educate me please. Both these Corsair deals are rated at 667 but one is 5300 and the other is 5400. What gives? Sorry for the lack of knowledge.

I've often wondered the same thing. 😀

Retarded marketing labels. They're the same thing AFAIK. I believe 5300 is actually correct, as it should go PC2-4200, PC2-5300, PC2-6400, PC2-7500, etc. to make the +1100 consistent. I stopped looking at those numbers and just look at clockspeed.

xms- 107
or
Buffalo FireStix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2-6400) Desktop Memory FSX800D2C-K2G- 120

which is the hotter deal?

Damn, that is cheap.

Yeah, I remember when that same RAM might have been closer to $300. I heard that there were issues with price gouging though.

Thanks for the heads up, I just ordered two gigs. The slightly more expensive stuff is "4-4-4-12", and two day FedEx shipping is only $1.99 (free shipping if you're willing to wait for ground delivery).

I've mentioned this here before, but heres the link about the big 4 memory manuf getting busted for price fixing and are now sleeping in the greybar hotel

And I might mention that the Corsair rebate routine has given me one of the worst experiences of that kind. I bought some XMS 6400 and the Corsair 620W PSU from ZZF almost three months ago, a $20 rebate on the PSU, and a $50 rebate on the RAM. They "lost" the RAM rebate, and have acknowledged the PSU rebate and emailed it was "sent", but nothing yet. So I called about the RAM rebate (after 2 months) and they made me go to ZZF to get a copy of the old rebate form and fill it out. I must say ZZF was very helpful and friendly and emailed the form which I faxed with my invoice to Corsair. The lady at corsair was also very friendly and helpful, and said she was going to "expedite" that RAM rebate, but its still a big ZERO. So any rebate over $20 on Corsair item, I will buy some other brand..

Maybe I should add two more gigs to get up to 4gigs for Vista 64bit.
edit: I'm currently using 2GB on Windows XP Pro, would I see a large difference doubling my RAM to 4GB and moving to Vista 64bit?

Depends on what you do. Most likely not, but if you do some heavy video editing, photoshop, or something like that, maybe.

BUT, with memory so cheap, it may not be a bad idea. 😀

hey the XMS is only $78 shipped now! I just grabbed a pair (even though I already bought the kingston valueram from fry's lol...hey 4 gigs for $150 who can complain?)

Oh I see.

Still, and I updated the OP to reflect this, the XMS with Platinum heat spreaders is now $78 shipped.

Once you go black.......you never go back.

Well in terms of heat spreaders 😛

I know just a few months ago it was ridiculous!

didn't they get sued for price fixing or something?

anyways at this rate we'll need to switch to 64bit os soon!😀

Edit-

5300 Rating = 667@555 Timings
5400 Rating = 667@444 Timings??
5400 Rating = 675 Mhz Clockspeeds. More than likely this is correct and not the timings.

Thats at least my understanding. 🙂
