I've been wanting to play some 2d platform games on my Wii, like the original mario games so I went out and bought Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Well, I get it home and its an RPG. It does have some platform sequences but not exactly what I wanted. I guess I didn't read the box too well.

Anyway, other than getting VC games (i'd like something with updated graphics), are there any 2d platform games for the GC that are good?

Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2

2D, side-scrolling fighting action set in 3D panoramas

Maybe? I never really played them too much, but they might be in line with what you're looking for...!

"Stuff like mario"? In the sense that Mario 1-3 completely lacked 3D elements, or Mario in the sense that all you have to do is jump on sh1t? Most recent platformers that aren't puzzle based have some kind of combat system that's more complicated than Mario. Not that Mario isn't great, just that there isn't much out there that follows the same system. Maybe clarify what you're looking for.

Edit: And I'd recommend Viewtiful Joe as well (the first one). While I haven't played it a lot, what little I have was pretty good. I'm planning on picking it up to play on my Wii eventually. But other than that I really don't know if there are any Mario-esque platformers out there.

It's not. Only reason I purchased it was to get the two sets of bongos, and only reason I played it was b/c I didn't yet have Donkey Konga.

i don't know how i can clarify it any more that what i've already said. i want a 2d platform game in the vein of the mario games. something like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or Metal Slug type stuff works too, although the simpler the better.
