i like graphics 2d like arcade bomberman, starcraft, gunbound, etc.

i think the last 2d game made was "zelda four swords" or something on gamecube..

am i the only person with a fetish for this kind of graphics? i think it looks really artistic and stylish.

i mean 2d would still look good on modern games if developers made really intricate detail and good animations..

come on we need some 2d games ppl!

i was coming in expecting to see a post about like...Contra, 1942, R-Type III, Darius III, or something along those lines.

wtf.

GunBound isn't 2d. It's 3d accellerated, you just happen to only play in two dimensions.

I'd have to agree though. I miss some of the cool older gameplay styles. Though I'm happy with where alot of things are going in the gaming industry.

same and those games were AWSOME, and i woudl like to see more like them
Graphics are nifty but 90% of todays games suck ass

We have 2D games.
Disciples II: Rise of the Elves. (Actually, all of the Disciples 2 series was good.)
And all the Age of Wonders games. And Heroes of Might and Magic 1,2,3.

If you mean console-style games, then go get a freaking console.

Oh, and there are some little companies out there making old-school shooters if you like that sort of thing.

Try out the Marathon Trilogy. It's the most awesome sprite-based game evar.

EDIT: nvm, Marathon is part 3D and part 2D. How about the Baldur's Gate games? Those are awesome 2D games.

Yeah I know...classics. Can't believe I was lame enough to sell my SNES earlier in life. Now I'm rebuilding the collection. Never had an NES (SNES came out when I was 5...got it for xmas), but hopefully I can pick that up too sooner or later. I did play a lot w/friends though (NES); it was awesome. I was originally really upset b/c I wanted a NES, not a SNES...hehehe.

But 2D games on the NES/SNES are so awesome. So awesome.

edit: *Fires up Super Metroid* damn forget about sleep...

I like 2d games, but mainly because they were more fun. Since they didn't have the technology to make them look perdy they spent their time and effort making them enjoyable. Today it seems like they spend all their time and effort in the special effects and none on the gameplay.

Though I dont mind them, I do miss those days of gaming.

ya, i miss the 2d days. it had its charm 🙂, and I know what you're trying to say. It'd be nice if they still made 2d games, but I guess that's what flash games are for heh

There are plenty of 2D games still being made. SNK/Capcom fighter titles will be around for a long while still. The Atomiswave is bringin out a bunch of new 2D titles. They're trying to bring Metal Slug into the 3D world, but you can be sure that's gonna flop and it'll return to it's 2D roots. It's far from dead.
