If you're thinking book, maybe "48 Days to the Work You Love" by Dan Miller.

BTW, this is a serious suggestion though it might sound mean on the surface. I've not read the book but heard several people recommend it.

I think if you just gave $50 cash it would be awkward (IMO)... but perhaps a Thank You (for being good mentor) card and $50 gift card to local restaurant, or if you know he has a hobby (boating/camping/fishing/etc) a gift card to a specialty store like Cabellas or Gander Mountain etc.

Edit... When I got laid off I would have welcomed a gift card to the grocery store... lol. Since he's a "higher up" this may be less of an issue for him though. 🙂
