I just built this computer. I wasn't expecting a high end one, but when the videos ran on the 3dmark06 test, they weren't even moving! The whole time I saw 0 fps, 1 fps and the time was just skipping, not actually flowing.

it's onboard video, but I was told it was a decent video card. I was questioning it when I tried to play Quake 4 on here and could barely even move, is there something else that could be wrong?

system is

AMD 64 x2 3800+
2gb DDR2 667
MSI K9AGM2-FIH Socket AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Seagate 7200.10 SATA HD

"it's onboard video, but I was told it was a decent video card"

"OS is windows vista"

so there you go. integrated video is NEVER decent for GAMING. decent for everything else? yes. and with vista sucking up your ram (granted you have 2gb), i doubt your integrated video will do much good for gaming.

and integrated video is a built-in graphics chip on your mobo. it's not really a video card.

On-board video. What did you expect? On-board video is only good for 800x600 or 1024x768 on low settings. If you expect to get half-decent frame rates on Quake 4, you'll need something like 7300GT or 7600GT.

but is it really THAT bad? I would think the worst systems out there would still score 500+

Yes it's that bad because Vista uses ALOT of your memory for superfetch etc. The onboard video uses your system memory and if there's nothing left then you're screwed.

funny thing is i think my axp 1700+ with 768mb of PC2100 may be able to beat that score with my x850pro...

3dmark used to have a place that I could check other systems with the same video card, cpu, etc. do they not have that option anymore?

would this fix my issue? I just want to be able to play todays games. I want to keep it cheap, don't need to play at 1920x1200 resolutions or anything

probably world do ok for 1024x768. Do note that Nvidia's drivers in vista are pretty bad as far as performance is concerned. so it will be faster in xp than vista if you look at benchmarks and reviews

this doesn't really have anything to do with the 3dmarks but is your memory in dual channel? it's in slot 1 and 2, usually it's like 1 and 3

Yes, the 7600 should improve your gaming significantly from an integrated system. However, I don't know if the 3800 will be the limiting factor at 1024x768 or not.

That would fix your issue. I use that card at 1440x900 and all the games I play, play fine. As people stated before, yes onboard is really that bad, most do share system memory. With Vista you can't really afford to be losing memory. With Vista I think there is a way to add flash memory as system memory, so if you only have 2 slots, that's probably your only option.

For $20 more bucks you can get This X1950GT that will blow that 7600GS and the X1650 right out of the water and will play modern games very decently at 1280x1024 and below.

For ~$100,

7600GS = Crap
X1650 Pro = Crap

7600GT = Good
X1650XT = Slightly better
X1950GT/X1900GT/X1950 PRO = Much, much better

yes that video card would help. but try 3dmarks in XP. nvidia drivers for vista aren't very good yet. also, vista isn't as good for gaming. hasn't been optimized yet.
