Wealthiest Americans have 288 times net worth of typical family

The wealth gap between the richest Americans and the typical family more than doubled over the past 50 years.

In 1962, the top 1% had 125 times the net worth of the median household. That shot up to 288 times by 2010, according to a new report

Most Americans below the upper echelon have suffered a decline in wealth in recent decades. The median household saw its net worth drop to $57,000 in 2010, down from $73,000 in 1983.

The top 1%, on the other hand, saw their average wealth grow to $16.4 million, up from $9.6 million in 1983.

Occupy a different Job then. You work for the Government. Why hasn't your beloved Government upped your pay?

Hate? Really?

If you can prove they perpetrated an elaborate scheme to take money from the middle and lower classes to hoard for themselves that might be reason to get mad... but if you're just trying to feel things rather than think them, knock it off.

Also... put your commentary in the first post.

How's that revolution working out for ya Dave?

He still hasn't forked over his share yet. He wants Socialism on a Global scale, so a $70 Trillion Global GDP divided by 7 Billion people is $10,000 per person.

So... I should hate someone because they have more money than I do? Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip!

Still, I have a few questions. How much money should they have before I should merely dislike them? Or worse, kill them on sight? Are there any exceptions, or am I to love only people as well off or poorer than I am?

This class warfare thing has got me a little excited! What should we do next? Maybe we should take one of their cars. That'll show 'em! :D

I dont hate them, but if i was one of them i would advocate paying higher taxes for myself and others of my wealth.

Either way id still be wealthy and feel im giving back to the people less fortunate than myself that also helped me get to the wealth i have in the firs place.

And yes id write a check to the IRS while fighting my cause to pay more actual taxes.

Was there supposed to be a reason to hate them in your post somewhere?

You shouldn't hate someone just because they have more wealth, make more money,...

How much do they have, combined? Now please compare it to the US debt - and see if it makes a dent. Whatever check you want from these rich - the US government could have done many times over.

Hate is the overriding democrat emotion. It is the catalyst to action. When a group is assigned to be hated, it is easy to rally against it. After all, who is going to stand up and say that they like a hated group?

I think financial assets are a poor indication of a person's wealth. There's just so much that's far more important. I consider that one of the more important lessons I learned while traveling and living abroad. Embrace that concept and free yourself is my .02.

Wait, I thought it was the welfare folks that are bleeding the country dry? Make up your mind - I don't want to hate the wrong group.

You are right they hate, but probably no more than republicans and honestly, maybe, just a little bit less.

Let me look through some of these old threads from 2004 showing all the hate towards John Kerry... who is much wealthier that Mitt and who married into money, and like most wealthy Americans... keep some of thier fortunes in overseas accounts.

I am sure John Edwards portfolio is larger than Mitt Romney's. Why all this new found rage towards wealthy people?

please... that is just silly. Republicans are too busy being tired from making money to pay for all those obama voters that sit on their asses and collect checks.

Seriously though... Libs like hate it motivates them. Being an Indpendant conservative the Hate I have is for the sheepish status quo republicans that are more neo-cons and not true conservatives. Well it is not really hate it is more frustration that they think this election will be really easy or really hard and don't much either way to make a difference.

If you were one of them you would not advocate paying more taxes because you'd be able to see first hand the handsome amount you were already paying.
