Could've sworn it meant simple precision....:hmm:

I hope today's LTC miners get to experience what those of us doing BTC in 2011 have. Someday it would be cool to hear some stories about how AMD cards changed ATer's lives.......I know my 5850s and later a 7970.....along with some help in the BTC thread (especially Slowspyder) ended up being a positive force for me personally. :)

Nice to see your Radeon card(s) have delivered such added value OCGuy.

Keep using your Single Precision Integers in your universe where Integers are imprecise then.

Want to continue your cyclical logic?

Well if you keep on thinking mining coins isn't "REAL" GPGPU, it doesn't really matter what your opinions are of sp or dp or anything, because its irrelevant for this thread and you're just crapping all over it.

Here's an article to enlighten you, and its only for BTC, not counting the massive mining pools scrypting.

Get this thread back on topic, or start another one to argue about mining.

There seems to be a ton of Radeon cards available on Newegg... just not many 280's or 280X models.

Perhaps they are just having a shortage on that particular chip?

Weren't they shifting the 280x to a new stepping with lower power consumption and temps? Probably they just cleared the old stock and are waiting for those new chips.

Why would anyone mine with a 280x over a 7970 if they have the option.....

One etailer's stock on a card that has been around is not enough data to make a educated guess of either supply or demand

Because a 280x is basically an underclocked 7970. Also because 280x has higher availability than 7970. Also because 280x retails for less than a 7970 unless you were able to get a good clearance deal on a 7970.

Newegg currently has 7950,7970, and 280x in stock as of right now. Only 1 (manufacturer) of each though.

Considering Tahiti is the oldest 28nm chip, I don't think there would be shortage issues, except for demand outstripping supply. It's not like the retailers or AMD would have been able to plan this when they were allocating for the 4th quarter supplies.

Yep the new ASIC is to be introduced in December.
