2700+ TBred B or 2400+ Barton M?

I would go for the XP/M, it should be noticeably faster at any given clock as well as clocking roughly the same. It has unlocked multis as well.

Indeed. The mobile parts will do perfectly for OC'ing, although reports say that they are no longer multiplier free.

wtf? then how does the clock speed scale down for lower power consumption?

whatever- They may be able to clock down, but not up, but thats just a guess.

Exactly.- just like the A64's.

It's a half-locked mutli - only down, no up. I heard 2700+ T-Bred B's were good OCers - I've been able to get mine to only about 2.5GHz stable though. Currently running it at 1.73GHz and 1.3V, because I'm a silent phreak 😛

35w XP-M 2400+ or 45w XP-M 2600+.
2.5ghz should be do-able for you with either of those provided you have a good mobo.

Well I already have an extra 2700+ TBred I was going to use, along with a Shuttle AN35N Ultra, both new in the box, but was thinking about getting a mobile Barton instead (and noticed a couple used 2400+ for sale), along with an NF7-S V2, since it's a better overclocker, and also because I'd really like to have SATA. Although (minor things I'm sure) the NF7's SATA isn't native, and it only has 3 RAM slots. In looking for memory it seems 4 slots would be better, since 512MB sticks are faster than 1GB (if you plan on 2GB total). Or is this not worth worrying about?

Is there another mobo I should look at for an XP-M with these features?

So should I do something like above, or go for an A64? Any drawbacks to A64 or the mobos required, besides price?

Hi, I just got a a64 venice for $200 and mobo for $130, and its definitely steps above my xp mobile 2600 at 2475 on my Abit nf7-S.

Definitely go for the a64 and mobo, my stock 2.0 gig, is hitting 2.5 easily. They seem to overclock even better than the mobiles, mine is a venice core 3200. My 3d mark is way above and the memory transfer, at least thru Sisoft Sandra is doubled. Maybe not in the real world, but at least in this benchmark.
