270,000 toyota's have faulty engines UPDATE: recall issued

I don't get what your point is here. Old Toyotas > new ones, so he switched to a Subaru. It's an entirely different vehicle, who cares who owns the company? The cars are still engineered in-house at Subaru. Also, Toyota owns only a 16.7% stake in FHI, not what I would call "controlled by".

toyotas are garbage like I've been sayin for the past few years, and everybody was sayin domestic quality was crap. I'd rather buy a Ford.

its sad toyota has fallen so far. toyota used to stand for small, economical, fuel efficient cars, that would last 20 years and 300,000 miles. now i don't know what they are. GM lite maybe.

Faulty engine is quite vague - I mean is it serious like a lubrication problem or silly like software?

Like someone linked to earlier it's a problem with faulty valve springs. The weaken springs will cause the engine to throw codes and worst case stall the engine.

We owned a 92 Camry not too long ago. It was built like a damn tank and so easy and cheap to maintain and work on, I could do it in my sleep. I could tear down most of that car with a socket wrench, a philips and flat head. With 232,000 miles the damn thing WOULD NOT DIE!

HOWEVER--------todays Toyotas are sheer and utter garbage IMO. They screwed up big time with that drive by CPU crap.

HUUUUUUUUUUGe difference between my 98 Camry and my mom's 07 Camry. One's built in the Japan. The other's built in the US. But besides that there's a lot of quality issues...

Our 93 Camry rocked. The oil cap was left off after a change and we ended up droving it from Grand Forks to Valley City North Dakota with basically no oil. That engine ran for nine more years with no problems before we sold it with maybe 180k on it.

Now I have an 08 Tundra which has had no problems.

recall issued

http://money.cnn.com/2010/07/02/autos/lexus_engine_recall/

"In recent months, the automaker has recalled more than 8 million vehicles worldwide for a variety of safety issues including possible unintended acceleration and problems with anti-lock brake software.

Most recently, the automaker recalled some Lexus SUVs because of problems with electronic stability control software.

In a recent J.D. Power survey of initial quality, Toyota slipped to 21st place from 6th place last year."

If you know any auto company you know when they become that big, they are going to suck. Toyota hasn't made a good car since the early 2000's. They got too big and had to cut quality to still be profitable. Same story with every other car company.

False. Not true with Honda.

fucking ouch

The Tundra has on going motor issues as well. Faulty cam shaft design and associated mechanicals.

Geeze, that site is a little silly. Check out how reliable this Bentley is:

I think JD Power's initial quality is severely inaccurate. I simply fail to believe that a low production luxury vehicle like a Porsche is doing better than brands like Honda. I do not believe it. The numbers don't say it, either. I'm sure this has to do with key factors like somebody who bought a 911 Turbo isn't driving it to work and back every day and errands on the weekend like the owner of a new Civic does. I think it's rubbish unless its problem rate is adjusted for actual miles. It isn't, is it? In which case, RUBBISH.

some of them are failing on previously exchanged motors that were replaced on a previous recall for failing cam shafts.

My 2002 camry's been going strong, i guess i dodged a bullet, unlike the suckers that have bought the newer toyotas 😛
