I find that even if you have bad breath, no one will tell you unless it's a dentist or doctor and you ask about it.

If you have bad breah hang around black people, they'll for sure tell you, and probably every time they see you afterwards. And might just give you a nick name that reflects the fact they think your breath stinks. Black people tend to be brutally honest lol.

To OP - I didn't notice any problem with my teeth and went like 10 years without going to a dentist. I ended up going to get a cleaning and was told I had a ton of cavities, 9 I think. I had to go in 3 different visist to get them fixed. Wasn't fun at all, the pain was decent and it took what seemed like 2 hours each time. Bad choice on my part not going for a decade.

You can't say you haven't had a cavity if you've never been to a dentist. Not all of them get very bad or even hurt. I'd say about half of the folks I know with them never knew about them till the dentist found them... me included. I've had one cavity and never would have known about it without the dentist.

Or he was just making shit up to get more money. But we had insurance so *shrug*

The weird thing about my teeth is that they seem perfectly fine. I don't have snaggle teeth (overlapping teeth, lol) I never had a cavity. My gums don't bleed. They're white, so white my girlfriend thought i was stealing her white strips. I rarely floss and I only brush one time a day, which is in the morning. I also ate the living shit out of candy as a kid, now, not so much. I don't drink much soda. My breath doesn't stink..well I haven't been told it ever did. I could bite down through a jawbreaker in one bite...

Does this mean I'm bionic?

Brush, only once a day? That's disgusting...

And if you did go to a dentist, you'll probably discover that you do have cavities.

Were your parents poor and didn't take you to the dentist b/c they did not have dental insurance?

Excellent dental hygiene and regular professional dental care will most benefit those who have some crappy predisposition to problems (which can include, but not limited to, bacterial flora and saliva composition). If you are one of the fortunate persons who don't have any predisposition to problems, you can get away with a lot of neglect or poor habits for many many years.

My neighbor's smile is so perfect its sickening. He's hispanic (Mexican) and has been to the dentist about six times his entire life. For most of his life, he had sub-par dental hygiene and care. Probably has one crown and three fillings, all told. The rest of his teeth are perfect.

Meanwhile, I had above average dental hygiene and professional care most of my life, even braces. My teeth are dingy looking (due likely to dental fluorosis or antibiotic discoloration) and falling apart. I even had them professionally whitened using the bleach and UV light thing and it made them worse. It barely lightened my teeth by two shades but it actually made my smile look worse because it did not change some discolored areas of my teeth, making them contrast or stand-out more. I've had over half-dozen root canals, crowns, and nearly every tooth in my head has a filling.

To add insult to injury, I had silent nocturnal acid reflux for a few years that dissolved all the enamel from my teeth. The dentist told me I literally have no enamel left, so my teeth aren't going to last another 10 years unless I drop $15,000 ~ $20,000 to have them all capped/crowned (I'm on disability and have no dental insurance). I already spent $5,000 cash out of my savings a few years ago to have two root canals with crowns, revision of an older crown, and a half-dozen fillings (plus the bleaching, which was a complete waste of $500).

Fuck it. I'll just have them all pulled and get implants or something. No sense spending that kind of money trying to polish a turd.

I have semi bad teeth, I probably should have gotten braces when I was a teen. Funny you mention this, I've had the what I thought to be stupid ass idea for years now of doing just what you said. Sure it would be EXPENSIVE, but I could have a perfect smile without braces and waiting years. I wonder if anyone has said fuck it and actually done this? I need to look into it lol, if you ever seriously look into it and find anything out, PM me. I'd imagine this should be doable, $$$ aside it would be an super quick fix to my mouth problems.

Perhaps you have some crazy normal microflora that are preventing Streptococcus mutans from developing. S. mutans is literally everywhere in the developed world, there is no way you aren't ingesting any bacteria unless you eat food clinically inspected.

Your buddies might not be affecting you or it could be latent, just waiting one day to break out.
Can read more here about them.
